I've lived in Virginia for almost 5 years and have lost some of my Long Island accent - I pronounce my 'r's' now! I've learned to hide my accent a lot too, because it gets annoying when I say something and the people here think it's cute and try to immitate me .
Or they'll go, 'what did you say? CHAWKLIT??!! HA HA HA HA!!!' Grrrrr.....

FH is from the south and even though he's lost a lot of his accent, it comes out when he goes home to Alabama. Every other word out of his mouth is 'y'all'!

I have a non-accent - grew up in the midwest and I'm often asked where I'm from, because I don't sound like I'm from around here. I've had companies I work for ask if I'd record the greeting info on the phone since I don't have a strong regional accent.

I was born/raised in Queens, but somehow don't have a NY accent. On the phone clients used to always think I was from the Midwest.

Also somehow I'm always nominated to do the voicemail menu voice for our office.

people never know where i'm from because i have no recognizable accent ....i have an accent, but it's a modified albany accent (college). people ask me if i'm from california and my students at school always think i'm from england for some reason!
i have been told by a few people that i have a good voice for phone sex hotlines though.....

Boy is the way I speak messed up...I am very proud of my slight Long Island Accent...I am not TOTALLY...but I do say Dawg and Cawfee....I do not DRRRAG it out tho....However, in talking to my brooklyn guy frineds all throughtout my HS and College years, I picked up a little bit of Brooklyn....and then came to RI....where NOBODY pronounced 'aahs'....and said Wicked an awful lot....However, when I am angry or aggravated, my true LI/Brooklynish accent comes out and they are like...woooh..this chick is from NY...hahahah

When I come back from LI on weekends all my co-workers are like,Yu were in NY again, huh? I truly LOOVE the NY accent and I Looooooooooooooooove Guys with Brooklyn accents...mmmmm...I had a TOTAL thing for them in HS....and Still do!! FH is from Jersey, and he has a litle bit of a RI accent...thats about it...NJ does nmot ahve much of an acccent to me!
