1st adjust your budget - you should not feel like you can barely keep your head above water, it will only add to the stress and make the planning unpleasant.

The biggest way I save is by not eating out. Also don't buy things you 'like', buy only things you 'need' for a while.

Get creative. Make things for your wedding instead of buying them. Spend your money on the things that are most important to you (for us it was food and music), everything else you can pull back a little and not pay top dollar.

Research your options. It can be time consuming and time is money, however the more you know, the more you will save...

I have all those bills that you mentioned and more. Since we had a 2 1/2 year engagement, we were able to save money on the vendors by booking them so far in advance, every pay check we put a certain amount of money away in a savings account that we opened just for the wedding, we roll change and deposit it into the account, we deposit our tax refund money into the account, etc.

Direct Deposit! Seriously...if you have direct depostit...open up a separate wedding acocunt and have a certain amount of money put in their each time you get paid. When you have less...you will learn to live on less. Cut out all the extra's...ordering in, going out for dinner, shopping, movies, etc. It's tough...but you can do it.

I totally agree. We have been cutting out things and it's amazing how much you can save.

I am in the same boat as you and sometimes coming to these boards and seeing what everyone else is doing for their wedding could make you nuts (e.g. I had no idea about a grooms cake, std's etc..) I have learned not to freak about not having everything at my wedding-I mean who will notice if you do not have the lenox placecard holders?? I am trying my hardest to be economical about the whole thing. I cut back on my flowers (used Burtons) and I searched for a great price on my FG, BM and my dress. I also got my tiara and will be getting my veil at Tri-County flea market.

Just do what you have to do to have a nice wedding. I went to a wedding in November and was totally shocked that she did not have all the little extras I was thinking about and you know what it really did not matter!!

That being said, research and get deals and negoitate everything! That is what I am doing. Good Luck

I totally agree! No matter if you budget is 5K or 100K...you will have a great wedding. You don't have to do everything...and everything you do doesn't have to be top of the line. Make things yourself...there are tons of ways to save money. This board is great for ideas.

For us, prioritizing what was not to be skimped on (photography, entertainment, food) worked well...everything else seemed to fall into place. Opening a joint account and having direct deposit has also been working very well. You'd be surprised how much money you can sack away when you don't know about it!

First of all you need to think of what's the most important thing to you for your wedding, is it the reception, the amount of guests, music, flowers, etc... Once you have decided what's important and what you can do without or have less of you can start planning. Don't worry about the little things like favors, you can spend as little or as much as you want. And don't forget to get crafty. There are a lot of things you can do yourself if you put some thought into it.
