i AM RECENTLY ENGAGED, AND I HAVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF BEING MARRIED IN THE CHURCH I GREW UP IN. hOWEVER IN THE LAST FEW YEARS I HAVE NOT BEEN A PRACTICING CATHOLIC. I WAS TOLD I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BE MARRIED THERE BECAUSE I AM NOT AN ACTIVE PARISHONER. DOES ANYONE NO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS . PLEASE HELP I AM JUST HEART BROKEN ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF NOT GETTING MARRIED THERE. THANKS
WHAT MAKES YOU SAY THAT? I DONT NO IF I SHOULD BE HONEST AND TELL THE PRIEST ABOUT MY WEDDING PLANS FIRST OR TRY TO BECOME A PARISHONER AND THEN TELL THEM. I AM AFRAID OF WAITINGTO LONG IN CASE MY DATE ISTAKEN.

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE INFO ON CHURCH WEDDINGS
i think you should start going to church and give some donations like in the envelops that way when you speak to the priest it will show you are an active parishioner
I would talk to the priest and find out. I'm sure there are many catholics who don't attend mass every sunday that can still be married in a church...

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE INFO ON CHURCH WEDDINGS
I got lucky with my church. We are not parishoners but attend mass every other Sunday ( since FH lives in CT) and we were able to book for our wedding. Call your church and ask for a meeting with the preist.

its nothing talking to the priest. You can still have a ceremony there and not a mass if he didnt recieve the sacraments or he can complete them before the wedding.

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE INFO ON CHURCH WEDDINGS
they still shouldnt be able to deny you a ceremony. Since FH hasnt received his sacrements I believe you cant have a full mass. so expect to hear that. The other thing...in my experience (and I probably will go to hell for saying this) money talks. If you offere enough of a donation they will do anything

I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT, I NEVER THOUGHT THAT THEM DENYING ME WAS AN OPTION UNTIL TODAY.BUT SOMEONE TOLDME STRICT OR WEALTHY CHURCHES MAY NOT CARE ALL THAT MUCH ABOUT THE DONATION BUT MORE ABOUT THERE FOLLOWING.

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE INFO ON CHURCH WEDDINGS
We are not active parishioners. My priest is fully aware of this, and states it'll be different after the wedding. Plus, FH hasn't had all his sacraments, but we can get married there anyway.
I should point out, though that FH is making a personal decision to get confirmed, and will have all his sacraments by the time of our wedding.

unfortunately there really isnt such thing as a wealthy parish these days =( And like Joanne said money and telling them that things will change after the wedding can make all the difference. And I believe techinically a church cant deny a person if they are catholic because they are all houses of god. they just may never return your calls lol...but seriously that is again in my experience how they avoid nonparishioners

To clarify: I didn't lie to my priest, he's just of a new way of thinking.... It's in his experience that married couples tend to go back to church to raise their families... so while FH and I aren't so active now, he believes it'll change once we get married/have children, etc. MY church is trying to get younger people involved, so they agreed to marry us... and did not have a problem with FH not having all his sacraments. We could have had a ceremony anyway. Now we can have a full mass.
2nd, I got all my sacraments in this church... and they do want a pretty big donation... so, you know.
