Does anyone in here work in an all female enviroment or department
Do you notice anything positive or negative from being in an all female environment????

I work in a dept. with mainly females. At times, it can be hectic.. especially around that time of the month.. some people can be real nasty!

My company is mixed... however my group has been all female until we recently hired one male.
I find working with females fine, however I think there is more gossiping and talking behind backs with females than when the group is more mixed.

I used to. It was ok; but there was a lot of excessive cattiness (is that a word?) just floating around.

I just gotta add - I am female and I work in an all-male dept. And I LOVE IT!!!! There is NO drama whatsover, no beating around the bush, dirty looks, etc.
No offense to any ladies but its hard to work with them in my opinion.

I work for three male bosses, but sit along side a grouop of ladies .. luckily, my bosses are great .. and for the most part, the ladies that sit directly next to me are OK .
This might sound bad coming from a woman myself, but I HATED working FOR women!
I had the worst working experiences of my career when I worked for women.. they put me through the ringer. It wasn't just ONE woman, it was EVERY WOMAN I worked for.
Maybe it was just bad luck on my end, but at this point in time I much prefer to work for men.

My department is all female, very clique. It is really upsetting to one of the girls in the department how aloof some of the other girls are being to her because she recently got some special recognition. I notice it too, but frankly could careless what they think of me, her or anyone at this point. I have just noticed it time and time again with my department but look at the other departments that have men and women mixed in it and I don't see the same problems. I was just curious if that was it or not.

My office is all female and it is great if you have a family, marriage or child issue and you need off because everyone is understanding but it is also much like 'survivor' and as soon as you walk out the door or leave you are gossiped about. Also most of the ladies feel the need to share every detail of there sex, personal and medical lives. I don't care to do that since I come to work to make money and not necessarily to make friends (if it happens its a bonus, but I don't need to know if the people I work with are happy in bed or not)
I worked in an all male office in Texas and I loved it! There was never any drama, everyone was laid back and if the guys got pissed they would just tell each other outright and go on with there day. Also the only personal discussions were about sports teams, food, and their children.

i teach in a mostly female environment- public school. only 2 male teachers out of sixty something. We are always happy when a delivery guy or ANY guy for that matter comes to the school for one reason or another. it is so funny!!! there is cattiness and gossip but thats how we are.... i miss the men though..

OMG, I love this thread! I have 2 jobs.. one, that I just recently resigned from, was in a dept. of all women. I hated it. Talk about backstabbing, gossiping, caddy bioatches! They all thought who they were, they thought the world revolved around them and judged everyone, as if everyone had to live to their standards! I didn't 'fit in' at all. I was to a point, where I thought it was me.... but now I know, it was them, and I feel sorry for all of them.
My other job, is with all men! Go figure!!! I love this job. It's only on weekends, only during the sports season, and I can't stop it. I have a great time at work, we all laugh and get along. There's no 'drama' or backstabbing. The only issue is some of the guys are trying to get to where I am, so they say I don't know what I'm doing b/c I'm a woman. I work in a sports dept. So, other than that, it's amazing to see the difference.
I'm a woman, and I don't understand women sometimes! Either they take things too personally, or their that insecure that talking bad about someone else, makes them feel good?

I love my office, only 6 people. ANd of course, the ONLY person who wants me out of there is the only other girl in the office...

Oh lord, we were just having this conversation at work yesterday. There are TWO, count em- 2, dos, two, male teachers in my ENTIRE school. The cattiness is THROUGH THE ROOF. It's sickening sometimes. But on the positive side, all the older women take care of my like I am their daughter. When I am sick, they all come out of the woodworks to make sure everything is ok. But all the other times, everyone is bitchy and catty and generally inflexible.

Yeah, you could say I work in an all female environment--I teach at an all girls high school!!! Incidentally, we also have a very limited number of male teachers although we have 3 new ones joining in Sept.
I LOVE it!! Having taught co-ed jr. high for four years, the male students were always my favorite and I didn't know how I was going to survive the new atmosphere. Four years later, I can't imagine it any other way. Yeah, there's drama, tears, cattiness big-time, and all the rest (that's for teachers AND students), but I really enjoy the things you can say among women and the 'female camaraderie' (And I'm not a 'girly' person either). My department chair is one of the best bosses I've ever had too.
My husband always wants to kill me when I say this, but I hope all of our children are girls too!!!

My office is all women. 10 total. I love it. We have so much fun together. We also work in very close quarters. All of our desks (except Manager and Assistant Manager) face each other in a small room. We can talk freely about anything. We are all very close. We range in ages from me, 26 to 61. Sometimes we get snippy with each other but then the next day it is OK. My boss encourages us to talk it out in the conference room I wouldn't have it any other way!!
