1385 Broadway?People at work are telling me they have great dresses. I haven't started looking yet for my dress and don't want to spend a fortune. Supposedly they said they have great prices too. I was just wondering because I'd never heard of this place before .

I went there bc my FSIL got her dress there and swore by it. I thought it was a little shady, but the prices were good. It's worth checking out....

It's at 1385 Broadway between 37th and 38th Street...I used to work there when I was in college...you have to be careful. I worked for a placed called Darlene something (you can see how memorable it was for me!). They had a thing where they would sell the same dress to different people for different prices. The tags were marked (we had a coding system) for a high and a low price. For example...if you came in and said your budget was $800...we would show you dresses where the price was somewhere between $800-$1200 (knowing that if you fell in love with the dress, you would spend the extra few hundred dollars). Let's say you love the dress and we charge you $1000. The next girl comes in and says her budget is $1200. She may wind up with the same dress and pay about $1500. All the head peices and viels were around $250 each (no price shennanigans with those). Remember, that did not include alterations! Anyway...my advice...be careful and shop smart :) Good luck.

The bridal bldg used to be full of bridal manufacturers 25 or 30 yrs ago. Now, only 2 floors have shops there. I don't believe any gowns are manufactured there anymore. The shops are all small with dressed crrammed in, uncomfortable dressing rooms & minimal service. My daughter found her gown at one of the shops there but ended up ordering it at a local bridal shop (she lives in NJ). The dress was $200 cheaper at the local shop where she got good service & since it's in NJ she even saved the tax.

Wow, This place does sound like it could be shady. Like I said, people at work had mentioned it and yhey all spoke so highly of it. Guess it wouldn't hurt to look, but definitely keep these things in mind. Thanks ladies for the tips!

I bought my dress there. I did not find a bargain at all. Actually they charged me for alterations they never did. My final fitting was in August as I was not coming back to NY til the wedding. They were supposed to fix the straps on my dress. One set did not have enough support to keep from snapping and the other set was to long. I was also supposed to have a french bustle. I put my dress on them morning of and discovered that the straps had never been touched. After pictures, I just unfastend the long straps and slid them inside my dress. The other set busted while I was dancing, also went inside my dress after that. (Fortunatley the 'girls'kept the dress intact) Considering it was not the dress of my dreams to begin with, the whole alteration thing really put a cloud on the day, for me.
And I realized after I got my proofs that my bustle was not the bustle my parents paid for.
My friend went there and got a beautiful dress for 500 bucks and her alteration were perfect. she went to a different office than I did, but same building.
It's hit or miss, but for something as crucial as your weddng gown, it's not worth the risk.
