Does anyone know how long it takes to drive....

...from San Francisco to LA, but taking the coastal scenic route? Not inland...we want to see the good stuff!

Route 1 i think. it's several hours at least, depending on how many times you stop and how good your stomach is (it is pretty curvy) and how fast you can drive without getting into a fight!
just don't do it at night!! start plenty early in the morning (like 10) and you will have plenty of time to enjoy. it is awesome!!!!!!

We plan on leaving bright and early! I want to see Big Sur and at least part of the Hearst Castle.

SF to LA via HW 5 is about 5-6 hours depending on where in LA you end up.

The scenic route (HW 1) is a lot longer. More like 8-9 hours.

You may want to stop for a night somewhere, especially if you want to spend any time in the sights along the way.
