Does anyone know how to legally change your name (not wedding related)
Is there a way to legally change your last name? Not when you're getting married, to just change your name in general. what are the rules? tia

I think you have to change it on your social security card. Not sure how you go about doing that though.

Why do you want to change your name to only change it in a year and a half anyway?

yup you have to appear before a judge and tell them why you want to change it and then have it published and change it with SS and DMV and all that good stuff. It's pretty expensive--can run into a few hundred bucks!

WHat a pain.
Well when I was 15 I wanted to change my name to my mom's maiden name b/c I wanted an italian name, not a german one (even my dad is half italian), because I don't relate to being german, or to my dad's family anyway. bu my mom wouldn't let me b/c it would hurt my dad's feelings. NOW my dad is trying to get my mom to take back her maiden name, so I decided, eff him, I don't want him name either, never did. And I'm not changing my name when I get married, so, it'll be one change.
On one hadn it's making me sick to have that !@#$%'s name, on the other hand I've had it for 23 years, it's pretty scary either way
