I don't know where...but please be very careful in choosing the place you do get your dog from...
puppymills are just awful places for dogs to live (kept in small cages outside....bred at everyheat cycle...studs used over and over - inbreading possible...etc)
many problems can develop years later b/c of being bred in a puppymill...and don't trust their vet...many times they have deals with not so honest vets...
my suggestion...is to find the rescue group for the breed and ask them what breeder they recommend...OR if you find someone who shows the breed...they breed for the good of the breed and if it is not a show quality dog they will seel it as a pet...

Not sure, but I can tell you that I DO NOT recommend Canine Corral in Huntington. They do breed some dogs there (I think Maltese) but have horrible business practices.

I can ask my aunt she just got a Maltese from a reputable breeder, but she is on vacation right now, I will ask her when she gets home, please fm me to remind me.

We got our puppy from Shake-A-Paw (sorry, don't know where in Nassau exactly) but they are excellent. Our dog came down with kennel cough and Shake-A-Paw paid for all of her veterinary bills. They really stand by their dogs. I completely recommend them!

I have a maltese that I got 12 years ago. She is everything to me. My husband got her for me when we were first dating by a breeder he found in the paper. Make sure the puppy is an AKC. Maybe you can find a website for the AKC or some way of contacting them for the info of finding reputable breeders. I will tell you that the maltese are the best friends you can ever ask for.

Yes, find a reputable breeder. If you go to the American Kennel Club's website, you can search for breeder and rescue referrals. It's really the best way to go.
I have to disagree about Shake-A-Paw...my neighbor just had a really bad experience with them. Sure, they will pay for vet bills (as long as you use their vet)...but they are distraught that their new puppy even needed to spend time at the vet. Apparently, her kennel cough and pneumonia went undetected for weeks at the store.
