My FH and I are doing a very small handfasting ceremony a year and a day before our wedding. It will be October 5, 2005, which is a Wensday. (Only ten people, none which are family) Here is the problem, I'm making the dress for this small ceremony, but I'm try to find the right fabric. Next year I plan on using that dress for my reception dress. I'll use the other dress for the wedding ceremony, then to tie in the handfasting ceremony to my wedding day I'll wear the old dress for my reception. Does anyone know a really nice fabric store that doesn't charge an arm and a leg? I also need a REALLY good selection. If anyone has any ideas I could really use the help. Thank you

Re: Handfasting ceremony
Sorry, I know any fabric stores in LI, but I'm curious as to what the handfasting ceremony is. Can you explain it to me? Thanks

I am not sure of GOOD fabric stores on LI, but I know there are tons in the city.

I'll go to the city, just give me some names and where they are. I'll take it from there.

Re: Does anyone sew?
I went to a place on Broadway, around Canal. Sadly, I don't remember the name, but I went there with a coworker who wanted to buy buttons to replace the ones on her jacket that she didn't like. The place was HUGE and I could have spent all day looking at fabric. I remember that there were others on Broadway as well. If my other friend who went with us remembers the name of the place, I will post it for you.

Re: Does anyone sew?
Hi!
I work in the fashion industry... I think you are better off on the Island for price... They charge an arm and a leg in the city, but... If you want 'different' types of fabrics, that might cost more... It would be worth the trip to the city.
Try... B & J this is on the corner of 38th and 7th... It is on top of the Duane Read... This is a very popular store...
When you are there, tell them what you are looking for and they will tell you the good places to go...
Also.. Mood fabrics, I think they are good, I haven't gone there in a while and I don't have my rolodex so I don't know the address... But if you ask the people at B & J they will definitely know where Mood is.
Hope this helps.
