I'm thinking it may be a good idea to get one for our HM to Thailand? What do you ladies think?

FH did. He checked prices and packages online then he called something like 6 TA and told them he would get the best package for the best price. TA usually get better deals on packages than online deals.
We even got a better price that we originally budgeted for.

We did not use one, but I feel like most people do.. We just kept getting high quotes from agents and when we looked ourselves, we were able to get a better deal working with the hotels directly (for the same rooms, etc.). I'd call a few and tell them what you're looking for and see who gets you the best deals.

We are using one for our HM. I knew all the prices the places were asking. Since it's high season and we are staying ar B&B's our TA got the same prices. I had her do everything anyway so that we have the insurance. Last time we went away she got us a great deal so I think it's worth cheking out!!

I would recommend using one-only because I like the idea of having someone to call in case of trip breakdown-case in point, we were told recently that US Air cancelled all Sunday trips to St. Lucia. Out travel agent rebooked our trip, on another day, but basically the same trip, no cost to us. I felt comfortable knowing someone else was taking care of this mess for us.

FH and I are HUGE travelers. We go on 4-5 big, international trips each year >
In my experience, the ONLY time TAs get better deals is for resort deals and cruises. Anything else its cheaper to book online.

I wound up using one for our HM. i found the deals about the same on online sites, but i liked the opinions i got from the TAs. i was so undecided about a hotel and they really helped me our with that.

We used one and I totally recommend her...her nameis Marie from Travel Bugs - you can do it all through email (which is so much easier!! IMO)

I like using TA for certain vacations. I feel everything is organized and if something goes wrong you call them.

Would happily pass on our travel agent but he's in Virginia where we live!!!
We used one, a friend of FMIL's - Carol from Austin Travel. We've used her to arrange trips for us before and she's been great. She really finds us good deals.

I used MAS Travel (a vendor here). Not only did they get us the lowest prices, they also showed us pictures of the resort, what tours to go on, what restaurants are the best, etc.
