Does anyone want to just have nice ceremony and then go out to dinner???
I am really feeling less than excited lately and am stressing about paying for the wedding. Sometimes I think I'd rather throw a big anniversary party someday.

I say do whatever makes you the most happy. My sister and he boyfriend are going to Vegas this weekend, and they are seriously considering getting married there because they are more focused on buying a house than having a big wedding. My parents want to have a small party for them when they get back if this is what they decide to do.

Will you regret not having a big formal wedding in years to come? If not, then have a restaurant style reception for 50 pp or under and use the money towards other stuff. Just make sure you won't look back and regret either decision.

That's what I wanted to do, but my husband wanted a bigger affair. Actually, I wanted to elope, so we could start our lives together right away, but he thought that would be hurtful to our families, so we went for a regular wedding, and had about 115 guests.
I don't think I would have regretted eloping or having a smaller affair. But I certainly do NOT regret having the more traditional wedding. It was a lot of fun and definitely worth the planning.
Do what is best for you!

I know exactly how you feel. We would love to get married next week and just have dinner at a great restaurant with our immediate family. We are not doing this _because_ of our families - they wanted a big wedding. We considered the small wedding now/big party later option, but ended up feeling that the big party later might be less of a celebration because it wouldn't be held on the day we were getting married.
For us, a big problem was that we have enormous families; while there are some people we are probably indifferent about inviting, there are other family members we really want to celebrate with. But we could not figure out a way to include only some family members (and exclude others), unless we limited the wedding/dinner to immediate family. If you have a small family, or you are not that close to your extended family, maybe you could pull off the wedding/dinner thing. I have to say that one of the best weddings I've ever been to was exactly this - 40 people at a fabulous restaurant in DC, no loud music so everyone could talk to each other, very intimate, and probably a tenth of how much my wedding will cost!

I'm really thinking of just focusing on the ceremony and then taking about 50 people to dinner at the River Cafe.

Everyone is different and has different plans for their wedding day..I was about to let Elvis marry me in Vegas..Ive since changed my mind..am now just having a small wedding..would LOVE to have 50 people..taht would be great..we are still only having 80..the point of getting married is just for that reason alone..TO GET MARRIED..having a nice ceremony and then going out to dinner would be wonderful. One of my very best friends had a very small ceremony, all of her closest friends were with her and it was beautiful. Now they have a house, no debt other than the house and have no regrest whatsoever. Some people want a big wedding..and thats great too. Weigh out your pros and cons..thats what I did, I looked at some places to see what my options were and then it just hit me what I wanted for my wedding. But noone can knock you for how you want yoru wedding...after all..ITS YOUR WEDDING!!! Good luck with whatever you decide..I think 50 or less people would be amazing..when you get married, it would just be the people you want there,.you dont have to invite relatives that you dont really want there..it could be GREAT!!!

Up to a few weeks ago, I wanted to cancel it all, call Lido Beach to see when I could reserve a few of the 'mushrooms' there to have a bbq/party and then find out if I could get married on the beach there (or Pt. Lookout). I was just sooo stressed about money. And it still tempts me. But when I sat and thought about it, I probably would end up paying the exact same thing as I am now, overall! LOL

well there are cheap places to have a reception... and that would cut down costs by alot...
whatever you do you should make sure you get photo and video of the day...
