Re: Does anyone work at a library?

I am looking for a career change and I think this maybe a good fit for me. So I wanted to know what do I need to do and what colleges offer the courese that I need to take. Can I get a job in a library and work towards getting a degree?

Thanks

Re: Does anyone work at a library?

you can get a job if you have a certain number of credits...but they will look at candidates with MLS first...

but there are 'technician' jobs that you can look for...check the nassau and suffolk county library sites...they probably have more info...

Re: Does anyone work at a library?

Irishbride, I work PT at the circulation desk, and NEVER have I had a better, stress free job! It's fun, the people are soo nice...filling out that application was the smartest thing I ever did! I just got my Masters in Elementary Education and there are NOOOOOO jobs in suffolk cty for teachers! I substitute teach and work at the library, but it has made me realize that I definitely would consider this as a career path! I am enrolling at St. John's to start classes for a MLS degree. I did NOT plan on going for another Master's so soon, but I feel it will be worth it. MANY libraries hire entry level librarians who are enrolled in library school. Some libraries also do not necessarily take MLS candidates first. Some like to hire 'trainees'...it saves a few thousand in their budgets! Go for it! Maybe you can get a PT job there to test the water!
