Re: Does anyone work in Manhattan???
I have friends that take the train...
Most of them hate it
But I do have some that enjoy it-- although they are all from Nassau (it's a little shorter that way).
Are you thinking about a move darrrrling? (job related)

Re: Does anyone work in Manhattan???
I commuted from Massapequa for a long time and honestly never minded the commute. We are now looking for a house in West Islip and will be commuting from there. I'm not happy about increasing my commute, but having a house will make up for it. I personally did not want to move beyond Babylon.

I work in Wodbury, but once in a while go to the NYC office. From Rockville Center it's not bad at all. 5 minute drive to the train station and about a half hour to 40 minutes on the train.

I commute from Great Neck and it's fine if I can get an express train. I used to commute from Hicksville and I hated it.

ETA:
When there is a problem and down or there are delays.. it is a B!tch.. there are no alternatives other than driving to a different station

Re: Does anyone work in Manhattan???
I do. I commute from Ronkonkoma all week. The commute isn't that bad if the trains are running like they should: I't doesn't bother me in the morning but I feel like I get home so late compared to when I actually get out of work. It also depends on where in the city. I work in Midtown so I still have to take the subway once I get to Penn Station. I have to say that sometimes the job is worth the commute which in my case it is.

Re: Does anyone work in Manhattan???
Ohhhhhhh boy I commute every day from Bay Shore. Its not THAT bad.....I sleep in the AM comming in so the train ride goes by so quick. Comming home its not that bad either UNLESS there is something that happens and the service is suspended....then its a pain to get home. My hours here are 10-6...... I get a 8:04am train to come in and get a 6:27 train home. I get home 7:45-ish.
You gonna come work in the city?

Re: Does anyone work in Manhattan???
I commute from Ronkonkoma everyday. Honestly, I don't mind it because I sleep both ways or I read a book ...the only bad thing is getting home after 7pm but after we're married, I'll be moving west so it won't be as bad. We hope to go to the Suffolk/Nassau border or around there.

Well I live in Queens and take the LIRR in. It's a shorter distance for me obviously but I really don't mind it at all

I know... it's really not too bad from RVC. Nice area to live too. Great bars and restaurants.

I like in Queens too and take the LIRR for me its great bc normally my commute is close to two hours but from Penn station is 21 mins exactly. Also, alot of people at my job live in LI, and some in suffolk, they say it takes about an hour...With the LIRR its ok, you have comfortable chairs and its alot better

Ok just what I needd to hear. I would be commuting from Ronkonkoma so I just wanted to know how it is. Just 'thinking' of going to the city for more money.. I drive an hour.. sometimes an hour and a half now from Farmingville to Melville with all the traffic so I think the commute time might be the same. I wouldn't have to take a subway though cause its right by penn

Re: Does anyone work in Manhattan???
I work and live in Manhattan.
I don't commute, but I occasionally go home for dinner to my parents' house in Huntington. It's about 1 hour and 5-10 minutes.
It takes me about 20 minutes to get to Penn Station from my office so the total commute would be more like 1.5 hours.
I considered living at home to save money but that commute was too long for me.
However, I definitely think 1.5 hrs on the train/subway is better than 1.5 hrs driving in traffic.

Re: Does anyone work in Manhattan???
If your commute is that long now then the commute to the city on the train will be easier because you can sleep instead of sitting in traffic. I sleep the whole way in and then read a book on the way home.
