Someone emailed me a frightening article about the long term effects of sweet & low, equal etc. I'm not sure that its 'real' but, its freaking me out! I consume on average more than 4 packets of equal a day
I hope my 'vanity' about my appearance isn't killing me!
Anyone know anything about this?
How much aspertame do you consume on a daily basis - diet soda included girls!

I'm on a very strict sugar-free diet, so I consume tons of aspartame. I also had a lot when I was pregnant, and my son is healthy and happy.

last i heard, the sweet in low in the pink packets caused cancer in lab rats?????
NOT 100% sure though..
i do know that supposedly 'Splenda' is suppose to be safe because it is made from raw sugar cane...

'They' (team of expert scientists) flip back and forth every few years about which artificial sweetner is going to cause cancer.
20 years ago they said it was sacharin and nutrasweet became popular. Then a few years ago they said they were wrong about sacharin and it's ok now, etc..

it basically says they havent found it to have ill effects in people.....

I've asked my medical insurance co. because my dad has diabetes - and they said that of the sugar-alternatives out there splenda is the best. But even then they say to use it with moderation...

I think there is some sort of warning on it- like it caused cancer in lab rats. My FFIL died of cancer, FMIL swears it had to do with all the diet soda he drank (2 liters per day). I stay away from the stuff. I think the real stuff (butter/sugar) in moderation is better for you then the fake stuff (margine/sweet-n-low).
Keep in mind, I'm a bookkeeper, not a medical person.

yeah... the cancer in rats is why i wont touch sweet and low, but ill have in moderation splenda since its from the sugar cane... and also they say you can actually bake with spenda, which people have troubles with the other sweeteners..

i have baked with splenda for a friend that was on atkins and it tasted pretty good. i think that they say splenda is better for you but i still wouldnt use tons of it. i think everything is okay in moderation

Splenda is a sugar derivitive, so it's 'safer', but the lab rats that got cancer from saccharine had the equivalent of 1000 packets a day of sweet and low. I hear it's fine to eat that stuff. EVERYTHING can cause 'something' bad to happen to you if you really want to get into it..........

Karen, I am sorry about your grandmother.
My father never had aspertame or sacchrin in his life and died of cancer also.
