OK - I'm feeling very cheap today, but I can recall going to many weddings and not getting favors. Personally, I don't think they're necessary. What do you guys think?

Re: Does everyone do favors?
They are not necessary.
As a guest I like getting a favor when its something that adds to the decor or atmosphere of the wedding - sort of like getting a souvenier when you go on vacation. But when I get a favor that is completely weird or overdone or junk I think they should have not bothered.

I don't think you have to at all. I am doing a donation to charity instead of the favor. You can donate whatever you can afford and I think people appreciate the sentiment instead of getting another picture frame or whatever. No offense to those who give favors. Just my opinion

Re: Does everyone do favors?
Most Jewish weddings do not have favors. In fact it's customary to not give them at Jewish weddings.

Jewish weddings- such as mine- no favors!!! No one is expecting them and nine out of 10 times, they don't get taken anyway!

Re: Does everyone do favors?
I agree with Stef, we went to a Christmas wedding where they gave out these little seashell favors which had nothing to do with the wedding, I think they maybe were homemade ornaments, not really sure. Anyway, they were so cheap and junky looking that the wedding would have been more elegant with out them.

Re: Does everyone do favors?
Totally. I went to a wedding where the candy thing was WAY overdone. They had lifesavers and Hershey's miniatures wrapped in their names all over the tables, plus a cheap faux-Lenox candy dish with a sticker with their names on it..it was filled with magnets with their names on them and swans, and more chocolate wrapped in their names.
Way too much on the candy and the names

Re: Does everyone do favors?
it really depends on the faith of the people getting married. me and my FH are all Italian and if we didnt give out nice favors, we would never hear the end of it from our families. people are coming and giving you hundreds of dollars as a gift, you can spend $4 a pop on a favor. just my 2 cents

Re: Does everyone do favors?
I don't think you have to have one. I agree with the Jewish customs. I worked in a temple (caterer) for over 10 years and don't recall ever once seeing favors on the tables.
We will be giving a donation in memory of FHs dad.
If you don't want to give them don't, you spend enough on a nice wedding

I am not big on favors, most of the time you have no use for them. I am thinking of either making a donation or not doing favors.

Re: Does everyone do favors?
Favor giving is purely an individual thing. Most of the favors I have gotten ended up in the trash, I had no use for them. FH and I are giving favors that are more of a joke--I'm having a Eur-Asian wedding so we are having chinese take out boxes with custom fortune cookies and chocolate in them.

Re: Does everyone do favors?
I am doing favors, something useful (which is what I'd want), instead of some junky little thing that gets thrown into a drawer or the garbage

Re: Does everyone do favors?
We are doing favors also...but I agree with it being something that will be used...we are having little breads made (corn, pumpkin) so the guests can eat it the next morning.
