So I just selected my cake-- and it needs to have fondant icing cause of the style.. right underneath it we'll have buttercream icing, yellow cake and cannoli filling (YUM).. BUT-- while I am also serving guests other desserts which will be amazing.. Will the cake be that bad?? I know it is more about the look- but, ya know- you want everythign to be good.
I don't think I have ever had fondant icing..

Re: Does Fondant Really Taste THAT Bad??
I personally don't like the taste -- but I could have just had a 'bad cake'.

No fondant doesnt taste bad, especially since your having a buttercream under it.

Re: Does Fondant Really Taste THAT Bad??
you can have flavored fondant my sis is a pastry chef and sometimes they put extracts while mixing the fondant to get it to tast better. they usually use orange extract. just an idea.
almond extract would go good with the cannoli and yellow cake.

thanks- that's a good idea. I will ask my Banquet Manager to ask the pastry chef about that-- I think almond or vanilla would be good..

When we went to the march on madison, we tried it twice (Margaret Braun and Sylvia Weinstock). I thought it tasted good.

I don't mean to hijack but your cake combination is making me salivate...OMG... so rich, I love it. I'm sneaking into the kitchen the day of your wedding
I think it will be fine with buttercream underneath it... yummmmmmmmmmmm....

Re: Does Fondant Really Taste THAT Bad??
i think it depends on who makes it --i have tried some that were okay (i don't particularly care for it) and others tasted really bad --i think it depends on the pastry chef.

I am personally not a fondant fan. But it all depends on what you like.

I think the way your cake is being prepared, it will taste delicious! The buttercream under the fondant will help. Honestly, I've had very bad fondant, & I've had pretty decent fondant. I wouldn't worry too much about it, it will look & taste great!
