Does it make a difference when buying a house if you are engaged or married?

There is no need to get legally married before the wedding for legal purposes, right?

For those who bought a house before actually tying the knot, did both names just go on the mortgage and title?

i am in the process of buying a house right now, and were not married yet. Both of our names go on everything.

You can both put your names on the title, etc.

To protect your interests w/o giving legal advise, I would recommend putting both names on the deed of the house.

You have to make sure on all your documents that Right to Survivorship is listed - this way if god forbid anything happens to either of you before you are married the other person has full rights to your house.

nope, you dont need to be married -

both our names are on everything - and the ownership is as joint tenants w/the rite of survivorship, as someone mentioned before.

good luck househunting

no, you can always change it later after you get married.

I would think it's best whether your married or not to have both of you on the title/mortgage. It greatly simplifies everything. You can legally make decisions for the property.
