Does it matter if things dont match?

Does it matter if things dont match?

I dont really have a theme for my wedding but my cake topper is going to be penguins and I wanted to get penguin place card holders but the only ones I found are so ugly.I found cute sailboat place card holders but they dont go with any thing except the fact that FH loves boating.

So my question is would it be stupid to get the boat place card holders that dont go with my penguin cake topper or anything else having to do with the wedding?

IMHO, I think the sailboats are a cute idea but a little out of left field considering nothing else in your wedding is sailing/sailboat related.

I'm anal like that and I NEED everything to coordinate perfectly. So I would keep searching until I found cute penguin ones.

Does it need to be an actual place card holder? Maybe you can get a bunch of cute little penguin figurines and put them on a table with place cards that possibly have a printed picture of a penguin on it? ....

I was just going to suggest this.

I would try to keep things matching or at least not have a ton of different ideas. Penguins and sailboats might be a bit much.

it depends, I don't really have a theme either but I am trying to keep everything coordinated. I think boats and penguins are a little too random lol! I'd switch one to match the other, IMO

I saw pictures of a girl I know's wedding, and she had brown bm dresses, red and pink flowers, and then autumn leaves and branches for the CP's- but that was the only fall themed thing she did, it just looked like hodge podge.

I have many themes going on, but they all make sense to me. Wedding is in Baltimore, so we have Baltimore stuff (favors, table numbers, etc.), We live in the Hamptons so we have beachy stuff (Adirondack chairs) And our colors are more summery beachy then city.

It won't matter that things don't match. My programs, invitations, placecards, and table numbers didn't match each other. They were all the same color but had totally different designs and fonts!

yes!!! i hate them!!

LOL, well, you could always just do regular tented cards with a penguin on them to match the cake topper, or you could even do the votive place cards with a silhouette of a penguin! Both are inexpensive DIY!

Re: Does it matter if things dont match?

i think it depends....for example, the bridesmaid dresses and boks don't match the colors for our reception, but they do match with the seaon, the way the hall is decorated and our ceremony decor - everything is an elegant holiday theme - even our CH will have a string trio playing some holiday tunes....and our invites matched with those colors (taupe) and theme and so will the placecards (they match the invites)....but then our reception is totally different - that is something we did on purpose - we wanted the reception to have a different ambiance.....blue uplighting, white branch CPs, lots of candles, hanging crystals....more of a winter wonderland....so i don't think everything has to match but i think everything should compliment eachother or have some type of correlation - ours is winter - it wouldnt make sense if our reception was a beach theme but b/c its still winter i think its okay....
