hahah okay, so i'm looking at this BM dress and i really like it (i like the color too) and the fabric is Taffeta. Now i don't know why but everytime i think of Taffeta i think 'bad 80s prom'. so my question is can i pull off the taffeta dress at a wedding without it looking 80ish? i know i know, i really need to stop discriminating on the fabric......
It's funny that you ask that....I was looking at a few taffeta dresses for my BM's a while ago....then my sister basically said 'I'll wear anything as long as it's NOT taffeta!'
Then the other day, I got an email from one of my other BM's emailed me saying 'I'll wear whatever you put me in....even if it's pink taffeta.'
I think I'm going to try to stay away from it. Even if it looks nice, it still makes that tissue paper sound when it moves

I am so nervous about taffeta! I don't like the way it shines, and I am afraid it will appear metallic in pictures. I LOVE this dress and it is my BM's favorite dress as well... but... it's taffeta

my gown is a soft taffeta and its gorgeous, it fits like a glove.....and my bm dresses are the same...i really think it depends on the designer and the QUALITY of the fabric. I've seen taffeta that looks just like you said a bad 80's prom....but I've seen dresses that look stunning in taffeta.

girls!!! u are hurting my feelings!!! my wedding dress is tafetta! and its the best dress I've ever worn in my entire life. its light (practically weightless) and has a great shape to it. maybe tafetta used to be this 80's, noisy fabric, but there are a lot of improvements and it looks amazing. it doesnt shine, its this beautiful mat color and just feels amazing when u wear it. my advice is to try the dresses on before being 'scared'
if u want I can send u the pic of me in the dress to see how beatiful it looks

oh no hurt feelings, my dress is taffeta as well! (pics in my album) i'm more concerned about the colored taffeta for the BMs......i will just have to have my girls try it on and go from there......i'm so picky when it comes to dresses! thanks ladies!

Yes...in certain dresses I like it better than otheres, but I am not such a fan of the shiny factor.

LoL - i actually like taffeta...even the shiny kind.
I prefer satin over taffeta but I wouldn't say I have a personal vendetta against taffeta - I'd wear it...

thats so funny that you brought this up! because i have been thinking the same thing and I just thought i was crazy. I'm like there are so many taffeta BM dresses it must be okay but everytime i see that its taffeta I look the other way. I do not think I like the shiny look and it always looks heavy(my wedding is July). We have not tried on any yet so in person it might be different, but so far I am leaning towards satin or chiffon.

yeah i see a lot of people feel this way too, i'm glad i'm not the only one.....we'll see i just have a hard time finding the color i like in the satin and chiffon......
