does the Maitre D have to share the tip he gets?

Does anyone know? I was thinking this might make a difference in how much I tip, and no-one seem to know?

Good question. I always thought that 18% service charge goes to the wait staff. I could be wrong though.

I just asked my hall this question! I think it differs by each hall. I was informed that we do not have to tip the waitstaff. But the tip for the Maitre'D gets split between the chef and a couple of other people.
