Does this constitute harrassment or dicrimination? Please read, I need your help!!

Im seriously up to my wits end at my job. For obvious reasons, I cant quit (paying for wedding), but tell me what you think of this situation.

There are 4 of us in the same position on the same team. We were all hired to perform the same job, the only difference being what time we come in. I am the most computer literate out of the 4 and more is expected of me. I get paid the same amount (if not less, I dont know) than the other 3. When there is a special assignment they hand it to me because the other 3 will complain its too much on their workload. I have complained about this to my manager, but he doesnt seem to care. For any little thing, they call me to do it when all three employees are qualified to do it. Is this harrassment of some sort? I feel Im the one always being picked on, and its not all in my head because one coworker that is on the team agrees with me.

I don't know if it is harrasment, but it sucks!

In a weird way, it sort of is acompliment, because they trust you to handle more. I Thinkyou should try & use that to request a promotion or raise or something.
Point out that your position is really diffent than the other 3.

Or whine & screw things up, so they won't give so much to do

Hmmm. Is it possible that while you think the other 3 members of your team are equally qualified, your bosses don't see it that way? Maybe they sincerely believe that you would be the best person to accomplish the task?

I agree. It definitely isn't harassment. At my old job my boss always had me stay late even though there was a night worker, because I was faster and more accurate. I took it as a compliment. Plus I got paid o/t.

I don't think it would qualify as harassment but why doens't your boss have the other ones trained so they will be up to par w/ you with their computer knowledge?
What would happen if you found a better job - no one would be able to work since they don't know what to do.

That's weird. I would mention it to your boss but I dont' think it can be called harassment.

I would keep notes of all these special assignments that go above and beyond your job description. Make sure that at your next review, or the next time you are up for a promotion you tell your manager all the wonderful things you do. I think its a great bargaining chip.

All of you bring valid points, but all of this has been addressed. Last year I headed a MAJOR upgrade to our system. I took the time out to learn it and I was responsible for over 1400 files. For the most part I did this all by myself. I trained the others to do it, but knowing it would be more work for them, they conveniently 'forgot'. That didnt bother me though. I went way above and beyond my job description, thinking it would get me either promoted or a substantial raise. The raise never came. My manager said his budget had been cut (bullsh!t) and that unfortunately he couldnt give me a substantial raise and therefore my review was only sub-par. There was also talk of creating a whole new job for me, that was eventually given to someone with less knowledge but more seniority than me. Because of this, I became bitter and asked that I come in and do my job like all the other 3 guys (there used to be 5 of us, but one got promoted). I didnt want any special assignments and I wanted to be treated like everyone else. Yet here I am picking up the slack for everyone else. Its not that the team is lazy or anything, they just come and do what is expected of them. Does this make sense?

Well I wouldnt consider it harassment... maybe (if this is such a thing) negative appreciation.

The question I ask myself is, if you say the same thing as the other 3 do, why does it STILL get dumped on you?

I think you should have a talk with your boss and calmly explain the situation. Maybe ask for less work OR more money. It cant hurt to ask.

not harrassement..... but if you are doing all that great stuff it sounds like it would be easy for you to find a job elsewhere and for more money...... how confident do you feel that they need you? because if you are... then perhaps its time for a talk with the boss, tell him that you have a noticeable amount of more work then the rest of the employees and you should be compensated for it....and perhaps add in, that other companies would appreciate your dedication and hardwork so if they really value you then they should too

Unfortunately, this is not harassment.

This is a typical situation of a high performing employee who is not recognized nor rewarded. It happens more often than you would think.

Sounds like it's time for you to start job-hunting for a better position!

i agree with it not be harassment but i totally understand how you feel. i am in the same situation at work im told im given more work because i can handle more without becoming overwhelmed. in a way its flattering but im also like okay i know i can do a great job now show me the money. i would have a conversation with your boss and tell him you would like a review and talk about your raise. i think they should give something for all the extra work your doing.
