DOES THIS MEAN NO MORE LIW FOR ME

Employee usage of the internet

Effective October 1, 2003, the Firm will implement an electronic activity policy that will affect employee usage of the Internet. The Firm will block access to external personal e-mail accounts (e.g., Yahoo, Hotmail and AOL), block instant messaging and filter access to inappropriate websites. Such restrictions are required to meet regulatory, IT security and HR requirements.

This policy does not impact your ability to continue to use search engines (e.g., Yahoo, AOL and Google).

If you have any questions related to this policy, please contact the Compliance Department.

Oh no!!! That's awful. They did that to us two weeks ago but by last week everyone was on IM again, and personal email. This is all because of that last Microsoft virus. Hopefully, you can still use LIW though.

Maybe you can search for LIW through Google and get on that way???

That would be horrible, I don't know what I'd do without my LIW at work

Shamma ... this is terrible.

We have some filtering software at school that prevents us from accessing personal email etc. also! But, while I can access the site now, Ron is requiring an active email to get to the site. (I don't think mine is active anymore, b/c I can't check it! )

I may be in the same boat as you .....

same thing happened for me. They are monitoring all the sites us teachers are using. No more emails, shopping, no moew LIW

There is a lot of legal regulations surrounding personal email accounts and IM software going on right now in the business world (I just had a work research project on this recently). Most of it has come under fire due to scandals such as Enron. Some industries (finance, health care, etc.) are more highly affected by these regulations that others (so far). My company has always had IM blocked and we do block inapproriate sites. It will really depend on how far they take the blocking if you lose LIW. I only have racist, porn and gambling sites currently blocked so I am free to chat with you guys.

christine1221 - I can set you up with a hotmail account and do the clicking so you can keep LIW access - if you like!!!

I can't access any personal e-mail accounts (aol, yahoo etc.) nor can I have IM and we are restricted from many 'inappropraite' sites. LIW is not one of them. I work at a fairly conservative company so you should be ok. But you may want to be careful. If you work for a small company they may start monitoring your web activity. People get fired for this. They don't do it here only because I work for such a huge company. I have heard of them using it as the last 'nail' in the coffin when people get fired though.
