My FH and I are having difficulty deciding whether to do a Viennese hour. It is included with the price of the RH, but the band suggested that it might kill the party.
In favor of it: -Come on, we LOVE all the yummies! My side of the family especially likes desserts -It seems like the wedding cake might not be so great, so it would be nice to have other desserts for the guests. -It looks nice/indulgent
Against it -Are we there to eat or are we there to have a party? -Aren't we eating enough already? A good amount of people don't even really want all lthat junk food. -Will it take people off the dance floor into the adjacent room where the food is laid out? Then they will be sitting back at their seats insead of socializing. -Do you really want to dance when you are that stuffed?
The RH offered to have plates of cookies and little pastries on the tables if we didn't do the Vennese hour, so the guests will at least be getting something, but I feel like that seems cheap in comparison to the amount you are getting for the Veinnese hour.
I seem to recall having more fun at weddings that didn't have the viennese hour...then again, maybe that was just because of whose wedding it was and the people there!
So...what is your experience at weddings with or without the viennese hour?

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
I personally LOVE the Viennese hour and most of the time I take some to my seat , eat a bit then go dancing again.
but will your viennese be in an adjacent room? that may change things IMO.

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
Im not having one. My parents thought there was no need for it. There the ones paying for the wedding so I didn't have much say in it but I don't think its necessary. You have all that food at CH and then for dinner plus wedding cake. I didn't feel the need to add more food on top of it and I'd rather be able to dance until the end of my reception.

I didn't do one at mine because we couldn't afford it, but if it's included in the price at your RH-go for it!! I don't think it's a party killer...it's yummy

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
I love them.. I also love desserts lol
I think that weddings usually have plenty of time for dancing.. The VH only cuts into it slightly and guests bring their desserts back to the table. I love that guests have a choice of desserts... Wedding cake is not always everyones favorite, but they're guaranteed to like something in the spread at VH.. There is no reason that once theyre done they can't get back up on the dance floor. Personally I feel like it kind of gradually closes out the wedding more so than, 'ok everyone this is the last dance', and everyones like w t f where did the time go.. JMHO though, I think everyone feels differently about it.. Obviously I am a big fan and having one

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
I love the idea of it and especially love it if it is included in the price!!!!
But I REALLY dislike the idea of it being in another room....Any way to keep it in the RH room itsself? It's already included in the price so maybe just have the tables you really like and know everyone will enjoy so you can fit it in the same room?

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
I am not doing one...I have a cake and the pastries and cookies on each table..I think that is enough for us...The amount of food is tremendous as it is... If it could be put in the same room as the dancing I would be for it, but I hate the idea of leaving the room...

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
Imo... ESP. if it's in another room.. then yes. If that room has tables and chairs then people will eat there and not everyone will even go back into the main room. Of course each party is diff. but once people eat at the Viennese hour they typically leave.
The dancers will always dance.

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
I'm kinda split about it. The last two weddings I went to, yes, the viennese hour DID end the partying. That being said, it is SO yummy...so if you don't mind it cooling down the party then you should go for it.

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
I am in favor of the vienesse hour. I worked at a catering hall for 3 years and it is one of the things i think guests look forward too. I did plenty of weddings without it and people always used to ask me where was the other dessert? I had to explain to them that the only thing offered was the cake and they were upset and confused.

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
we didn't do it because we thought there was enough dessert already. we had dessert trays at every table plus a seperate dessert the RH served, in additon to our wedding cake PLUS the grooms cake i surprised FH with.

Yes they kill the party but if it is included and you want it go for it! Personally I rarely have any room left by the time the viennese comes around. I usually pick at a few things then get ready to go home.

I don't think so, I would think most people look forward to it. I hope it doesn't because we are doing VH at our wedding!

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
I'm definitely in favor of the vh. There's no such thing as too much food at a wedding especially if its included in ur package. We had a vh and it did not take away from the party what so ever. There were still a ton of people on the dance floor when the vh came out. It was something that everybody loved!!! Definitely have it at ur wedding, u won't regret it!!!!!!!!

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
a lot people say its too much...I think its opulent! Most people do not have them anymore and I know your RH (same as mine) does an amazing spread for VH. As an Italian bride, I think its a must!

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
We had a VH and it was held across the hall in the CH room. The party died for about 20 minutes, but it was good for us b/c it gave DH and I a chance to relax a bit. But then people started coming back into the ballroom (esp my BM's) and the party picked right back up.
For me, the VH was a no-brainer. There was no way I wasn't having one.

Re: Does Viennese hour kill the party?
Viennese usually adds time to the reception , no? Im getting an extra hour for the viennese so i look at it like this.. the party would be over now, but instead we get delicious dessert!!!
I think it makes your wedding stand apart from the rest.. it is so classy, and makes a wedding a WEDDING! its a very big deal to me.. I know its expensive but if its included in the price why would you do it?? People who want to party will continue to party, people who want to eat will go eat!! I cant believe your debating it!!!
