does your DH/FH give you a hard time about..

Original post by MrsTC

buying new clothes or shoes? Mine does....he is a tightwad LOL. When we didn't live together it was easy to hide stuff but now it is not! I want to 'nip this in the bud' I am not out of control spending but come on now, everyone needs a few new things now and then.......how do you guys deal with it?

For the girls that hide their things, how would you feel if FH did this to you?

I shop less now than how I did before, but I also almost always buy things on sales or at discount stores (TJMaxx, Daffy, H&M). While Lenny doesn't like my shoes (and I did a donation recenty of 8 pairs), he also knows that I don't spend $500 on my boots or $200 on a pair of sandals... So he doesn't mind as much....

I would feel bad if he did it to me. But he is ridiculous - last week I bought a cute pair of sandals at Payless - they were on clearance for 6 BUCKS and he complained.

Sometimes, I think he does it just to bug me and see the reaction he gets out of me!

i have the reverse.... I find REALLY good sales on clothes and get them cheap.. then he goes out... buys one shirt... and im like ' I could have bought 3 shirts for that price'

I was actually joking about hiding the shirt, but I don't think I would mind if he hid something from me that he bought. Then again, I love when he buys clothes, so there is no need for him to hide it. Maybe when we are married it will be different, but for now I don't think it's that big of a deal. It isn't that he is complaining that she shirt was $$, it is more of my having to hear, 'Another black t-shirt?'..lol He jokes around when he says it.

I am actually gonna wear it tonight when I see him and ask if he likes my new shirt...

I haven't been doing as much shopping now that we're saving for the wedding but at one time I was out of control and he was constantly yelling at me. I would always have to donate a huge black bag of clothes to goodwill to justify buying more. Now that we're saving for the wedding, I only shop the days I know he will be working when I get home from work and if I order something from a catalog, I have it shipped to my mom's house. He HATES shopping and will wear the same thing over and over again and can't justify buying new clothes if the old ones are still in good shape (he literally has sweatshirts from the late 80's early 90's). When he's at work, I go through his closet and throw out all of his outdated clothes.

DH doesn't really care about what I buy or how much I spend - unless I go overboard which I rarely do. Plus, I take care of the finances so he really doesn't know how much my credit card bills are or how much a particular outfit cost. We operate on the 'honor system'.

Believe it or not- I abide by a policy in this marriage- it's called the 'Policy of Joint Agreement'... i don't do ANYTHING with what is 'ours' without joint consent- especially because our money is together...

When i go shopping my saint of a DH comes with me- he likes to put his 'stamp of approval' on my style and I like his company because he is my best friend.

Dina, that's so sweet.....I wish mine was like that. My mom and dad are just like you and your DH. Mine is different. I guess it's a little weird now because we are not married yet so $$ is officially not ours together yet. But that's a good idea. My FH is a little old fashioned.....has a 1950s mentality sometimes....how can I break him down??? LOL

I think that if we lived together before the wedding we probably would have put our $ together- it just makes it easier to save... plus no one should feel like they aren't getting something they want or need because of the other- that causes not-nice feelings.

I read a lot of self help books :)

Guess I'm really lucky...DH always buys for me! He has no problem with me shopping and he's always picking stuff up for me.

yes, he always gets mad when i come home with new clothes or shoes, so i'll sometimes tell him that they cost less than they really did or tell him it was buy 1 get 1 free. but since we are saving for the wedding i haven't been spending as much as i used to.

I think its funny that this question was posted because Steve and I always have this arguement. However, I also don't beleive in a true joint bank account. We each have seperate accounts and contribute to a joint account. This way, I can spend what I want on whatever I want and vice versa. This works really well for us but he still doesn't understand the shoe thing!

I got lucky with Matt. He was voted 'best dressed' in high school and loves to go shopping, although he rarely goes. But when we do, he shops for what would look good on me while I sit in the dressing room!

Once he said to me, 'don't you thing you should be wearing a pair of mules with that? or something more strappy?' How many guys know what an a-line is? He does!

He wants me to buy more expensive bags like more Kate Spade and Prada! I won't buy them now because I am trying to save money.

(he's not gay, just learned from his sister)

Nope! Matt spends so much on his hobbies that he can't and doesn't say a word!

JT doesn't ever say anything about when I splurge (like this week) because he knows that I am usually so tight with money that if I am actually spending some it means one of two things: we can afford it or I am so stressed that I broke down and went shopping. So he just says : Oh that looks nice on you honey, and we call it a day

now that we are married he does. It also depends if he likes it, then he doesnt, and vice versa
