Does/Did anyone have wood beams on their ceilings?
We have the beams in our LR and I hate them and would love to have them removed. One is a supporting beam. Has anyone had theirs removed and how did it go? What does it entail?

We had them in our den, they were purely decorative. The removal was fairly easy and there wasnt much damage to the ceiling.
I dont know about a supporting beam. I think you would have to replace it in some way or just box it in with sheet rock and live with it.

My parents had them on the ceiling of thier kitchen! After 20+ years, they finally removed them when they redid the kitchen. Turns out they were just decoration (as ugly as they were!). They removed them on their own, but had to do a lot of patch work on the ceiling after that.

Is your house a tudor? I have them and would never remove them - In fact, that is what we were looking for. Most tudors have these dark beams - and for resale reasons - it's best to keep the home original. However, they should be easy enough to remove - they are usually just for an effect - my home has the beams in just the living room - I'd say it would be easy enough to remove - and they are usually not supporting beams.
