dog breeds

dog breeds

DH and I are planning on getting a puppy very soon. However, we are having difficulty agreeing on a breed. We know we want a purebreed from a breeder. We need something that can be happy in our apartment. What we agree on so far is it needs to be short-haired, intelligent, and medium to small. I'd love to hear any suggestions!

ETA: DH also made it clear that he does not want to be embarrassed walking it, so I guess it needs to be a 'manly' dog!

I'd say a Jack Russel terrier.

We looked into Jack Russells, and my only concern is the amount of energy they have. I was told that they are VERY hyper. I'm not sure that that would be good in an apartment. We both like them though.

Terriers are great. Definitely intelligent and playful. They can be a 'handful' in that they're stubborn and don't always listen, but well-trained ones are WONDERFUL companions.

Pug? Maltese?

Min pin? How are they in an apartmment? What about when we have children one day?

I'm not crazy about pugs (just my opinion) and DH won't walk a maltese. Thank you for the suggestions, though!

Keep them coming. . .

Our mini is great in our condo...We have no problems at all with him and he
is a VERY quick learner. He was bathroom trained within 2 weeks

He is great with kids and VERY MASCULINE to walk..People always come up to us

Aw, that is a cute dog!

The only breed I really know is Labs, and they are just too hyper, forget that. And probably the worst puppies ever because they chew everything.

I have a rat terrier. He's adorable. Kinda looks like a Jack. He's definitely a 'tough guy's' dog === he thinks he's a rottie.

(I also have an Italian Greyhound but that's definitely not a 'manly' breed)

Cairn Terrier- my dad has one- they are so cool, don't shed at all and are good w. kids.

Italian Greyhound- looks like a greyhound- but mini.

English Bulldog- love these.
