Dog Sitter?

Hi ladies, I am already stressing over the dilemma over who can watch my precious black lab while FH and I are on our honeymoon nexy year. My parents have moved into an apartment, so they do not have room for him, as he is a 100lb dog. Same story w. my friends.
I cannot think of enjoying my HM while my poor baby is locked in a kennel I am hoping to find someone who watches dogs in their house, or a dog camp where they are not caged. I can go anywhere on Long Island or NYC. I saw a few of you have dogs on this board, so was hoping someone may know of a good dog sitter. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help!

Re: Dog Sitter?

Someone I work with sends her dog to a place called Puppy Camp, or something like that. She loves the staff, and says her dog seems to enjoy it too. If you want, I'll get the details for you tomorrow when I see her at work.

Re: Dog Sitter?

I have a great woman to watch labs!!!! She is in Franklin Square and sort of 'specializes' in watching labs. I have a black one and she watched her for a long weekend in July...everything was great. She works for the ASPCA and loves labs. She will only watch up to 2 dogs at one time (no more). They have a room in the house and she has toys and all for them. Her rates were low too. My dog came back happy, had been eating, and was not in any way sick (I always worry about this stuff when I have to leave my dog anywhere). She my dog outside to play during the day (she has a kiddie pool just for them). If you are interested let me know and I'll give you more details. You can go by her home before you leave the dog to check it out. I highly recommend her. My mother has sent others to her and they were happy too. It is such a hard thing to have to leave your puppy but it is nice to know that they will be in a home and get personal attention!

Re: Dog Sitter?

I have a number to a guy who comes to your house a couple of times a day, feeds your puppy walks him,, turns lights on, picks up your paper or mail and brings it in for you.. i have never used him, not sure how comfortable i am doing that.. i HATE going away for this reason, i always feel so guilty leaving them anywhere, but no one in my family can watche them both, so i leave them at a kennel, but i wont leave them at just any kennel, i leave them at a VET. They get daily check ups and for the most part someone is always there with them.. if you would like any of these numbers just let me know...
