So... me and FH are planning on having our dog, Alfie, walk down the aisle as our 'best dog'. I think it is a cute idea and that many people will think it is funny. Others might think we are crazy dog lovers! FH feels like he is part of the family and should be there. Anyways, so he is well basically well behaved, but still a younger dog w/lots of energy... so he will have to be walked on a leash. Our ceremony will be held at tall grass... (which he is allowed outside of, just not inside) so he will have to be at the ceremony then someone will have to drive him home...(which is only 5 mins away). Part of me is if for it the other is afraid of it.... FH is insisting that he be there (which I want) but it might be too much work and aggrivation to have someone leave the wedding to drive him home... and also before the ceremony even begins someone has to watch him. (SORRY I'm rambling.....) So what do you guys think!?

Re: dog walk down the aisle?
Wait, just reread it..it's at the RH..umm, I wouldn't inconvenience any of my family or guests to bring a dog home...JMO..if that's what you really want though, then go for it!

I think it will work out. If you both want him there then do it. Just figure out who will watch him and bring him home. If its only 5 min away it shouldnt be that much of a problem.
I would love to do this!!!

Re: dog walk down the aisle?
this is something i would have LOVED to do! if you can arrange for it to happen then i think you should go for it. we live in staten island and we are getting married in long island. i wish we could at least bring my dog to the hotel with us - but i dont think its possible and it would be to much of a headache. im so sad she wont be in any of our pictures i would have loved to have her around during our ceremony - especially since she was there when FH proposed they proposed together hahahahaha!

I think if you can get someone to agree to watch him before and take him home after then go for it but I would set that up now with someone. I would love to do this with our dog but its too much work for us!!

Re: dog walk down the aisle?
Personally, I'm NOT all about this. We have a dog, he completes our little family. People are constantly insisting that he be part of the ceremony HOWEVER, dogs are unpredictable, no matter how well-trained they are. You never know how they are going to act around such a large group of people... what if he starts to bark?!?!
BUT, if you definitely want him there, have a friend of a sibling that is not invited to the wedding be responsible for getting him to and from the ceremony. We're taking pictures with our dog before the ceremony and one of my sisters friends who is not invited will be in charge of watching him, and getting him to the kennel once we're done.
Good luck!

Re: dog walk down the aisle?
My mom insists that our dog be apart of the ceremondy, she was like a pre-engagement present! FH and I purchased her 2 years before our the real proposal! However, my fear is that she is going to be sooo nervous of the setting and go crazy or better yet she will want me and FH to pick her up!! She likes to be held! Our ceremony is at my church a few blocks away so it will be easier if I do decided to appease my mom. Maybe you should see if your RH will allow it and then you could search for a pet friendly hotel and arrange for someone to drop off your dog for you??

I think the pics will be really cute but keep in mind that some guests may be allergic! I have a severe allergy to cats and dogs and I would have to leave the ceremony or risk a really bad asthma attack. Just something to keep in mind.

I think if it's something you guys really want to do, something special to you guys then go for it. I'm sure you can find someone who will have no problem taking him home...especially if you only live like 5 min away. You'll definitely look back and be happy that he's in your pics and you went through with it!

I love your idea of having someone not invited to the party take care of him and driving him around! Maybe I can have one of my sisters friends be in charge of that...thanks for the idea.

Re: dog walk down the aisle?
We are thinking of doing this as well
I am pretty sure you can hire someone to do this for you, We plan on hiring someone to bring the dog back to our house and get him settled in for the night.

Re: dog walk down the aisle?
I was really afraid that it might end up a catastrophe! You guys are making me feel better! Thanks! And luckly he isnt a barker...so i am not worried about that at all! Just him being fidgity..lol. And I cannot decide who should walk him down the aisle! I am afraid of having the kids (FG/RB) walking w/him because they are so small and might let go of his leash. I just might have to pick a couple for him to walk down with...and have one of them hold his leash will we do our vows!

I agree with Kim...I think the only way that might work is if you assign someone not invited to the wedding to take care of him.

Re: dog walk down the aisle?
I'm definitely an animal person, but I would never do this. A huge crowd will just upset the dog and it could definitely get chaotic. Believe me, he won't be disappointed that he wasn't there.
