Re: dollar dance

Yeah, you get to keep the money The times I've seen it done the bride gets on the dance floor with a 'money bag' and basically the guys line up to put money in the bag to dance with her for a few seconds. They usually put in a couple of bucks but sometimes it's substantially more -- some people put 20s.

NO!! it's when the bride 'charges' a dollar per dance. yes, she keeps the money.

Re: dollar dance

Ok...This is how they do it where I am from (From my MIL This is something not done often in NY)
The DJ announces this dollar dance and people line up with their money to give to the MOH (for the Groom)or BM (for the bride).
The MOH and BM have this little sacs or purses can be bought or made and the DJ plays plenty of slow music for the couple to dance to. The price for the dance is usually a dollar or for the real generous ones its however much they want to spend on the dance with you. They switch like every 30 seconds and it makes it easier for you and your man to dance with everyone at the wedding.
There are other variations I have seen if you want more.

Re: dollar dance

You might also be refering to a participation dance.... also known as the dollar dance. The song goes 'cent...five cent... ten cent... dollar' etc and there's a silly dance that people do to it as a group....

I have also never seen a dollar dance in NY - however, Im living in Indianapolis now and they do it here. The only thing I have to say is ... Don't do it.

Re: dollar dance

I disagree.
I think it is fun when done correctly.
I was at a wedding last year and it was nice because the bride and groom got to interact with their guests.
Its not tacky at all. Infact alot of people use this to fund their honeymoon spending $$ from the weddings I've seen

Jimmysbride...I love that dance :).

Do what makes you have fun on your day...

Re: dollar dance

I think it's tacky to ask my guests to pay a dollar to dance with me...

If I have enough time, I would gladly dance with all my guests for free!!!

BUT, to each his own...right?

Re: dollar dance

I've only seen it at NY weddings - upstate, NY that is. Wherever it is, it's tacky - IMO.

We have a dollar 'wine' back home but it has nothing to do with actually giving tangible cash, that is a bit weird

Re: dollar dance

I have seen it done at one wedding and I thought it was very tacky and thought it could make people uncomfortable.

Basically how this couple did it was, the DJ got everyone on the dance floor and made a circle around the couple. The couple had to go around the circle in opposite directions and the groom had to kiss every woman and the bride kissed every man who then stuck a dollar or whatever in her dress. No one had a clue this is what was going to happen so the men were scrambling for their wallets.

The bride was literally pulling wads on $$ out of her dress by the fists full. I am making a point to tell my DJ absolutely NOT, I wouldn't be comfortable doing this.
