Hey guys... I dont know if you have ever heard of the 'Dollar dance' but it is when the guests can pay a dollar to have a brief dance with the bride or groom. IT usually goes for 2 slow songs, and the bride and groom make all of that money for their honeymoon or whatever they want. I know all of my friends from upstate have done this, but I am not sure if it is really tacky or not. I would love the money, but I dont want to be tacky. Whatcha think?

Re: Dollar Dance
OMG!!!!!! i think it is sooo tacky and.....
my father was sooooo upset with me for not doing the Dollar Dance!!!!!
i told him that it is an old/upstate tradition and had no place with our family and friends.......
his response was 'i guess you dont need the money' sorry dad
ps my father also tried to pay DH to smash the cake in my face, another stupid/old tradition
DHs answer was 'sorry but we agreed not to and i have to live with her'
so my dad proceeds to tell me i have DH 'whipped already' oh well

I also always hate when they stop a wedding for it, and you have to stop partying for that time... its so boring! I'm not going to do it! Thanks!

Re: Dollar Dance
My DJ wanted us to do it and I was like no...I felt so weird having people give us money to dance with us. Plus it would have killed time from everyones fun. My DJ did request my DH to do a little for me before taking of the garter and my guest just got up to give me money to shower my DH but it was never asked for. The dollar dance is asking for $1 or whatever amount...I wouldn't be comfortable in that situation.
ETA: It is not in my culture or custom to do so.

Re: Dollar Dance
i just went to a wedding in NJ and they did it...they were middle eastern so im guessing it was in their tradition? everyone enjoyed it, i wouldnt do it myself, but it might be some traditions for certain cultures?

Re: Dollar Dance
I think it's tacky...your guests are already most likely giving you money for a gift and some already gave a shower gift already....IMHO I think it would look very greedy to ask for more...sorry!! (not to mention interrrupting your guests' fun on the dance floor.....!!) Maybe it's different upstate or wherever but weddings are also different there, people don't give cash as gifts in other parts of the country....

Re: Dollar Dance
my family wont give me a gift that i know and they will feel bad about it so........we have fun bc i know my family and it wouldnt put them on a spotlight or anything like that see iam not from li iam from bk (the hood in bk) so my family doesnt have a lot of money for gifts and a dollar dance would help them not feel so cheap and like they cant help me in any way
