Re: DOLLAR DANCE CLARIFICATION!
Before I ever heard the song...my best friend's very ex-boyfriend told me this stupid joke...don't even remember the details exact except that it was about sex and these were the instructions:
put a penny in your left pocket, a nickel in your right, a quarter in your back pocket and a dollar in front... and move your hips accordingly...
penny, nickel, quarter, dollar, penny, nickel, quarter, dollar....thats how the dance goes!

Re: DOLLAR DANCE CLARIFICATION!
I am not a big fan of the dollar dance - but it was never around any of the weddings/celebrations when I was growing up...so for people that aren't familiar...it can seem tacky...like you are illiciting cash from your guests...
However...I was at a wedding and they used fake money...so the bride had her tradition, but the guests were not put out...not like a dollar will break anyone...

Re: DOLLAR DANCE CLARIFICATION!
This was a big song a few years ago. The dance follows the words of the song:
Cent - The person will move their hip to the left 5 Cent - Move your hip to the right 10 Cent - Move your butt back Dollar - move your hips forward
This repeats itself. If you have ever done the whine to reggae or calypso music it is just the whine broken into smaller pieces. It is kind of hard to explain without the music.

Re: DOLLAR DANCE CLARIFICATION!
I know the song Crisco718 is talking about. But is it used for this dollar dance? And is it called the Dollar Song? B/C that song is Caribbean. I have never heard it played in SA unless it has been translated which I don't think I have heard a song with similar lyrics.
Theresa I will ask my mommy. Cause now I am curious..

Re: DOLLAR DANCE CLARIFICATION!
I am from the Caribbean and I am very familar with the song -- ita calypso song. It does not have anything to do with a dollar dance at a wedding.

Re: DOLLAR DANCE CLARIFICATION!
I think that different countries have their ethnic customs which vary, therefore there are a lot of different versions of a 'dollar dance.' It's hard to really say it's a 'South American' custom because there are people from South American countries who do not follow that tradition. It's your wedding day anyway....just do what you want!
