Dolphins & War

I am for animal rights and am a vegetarian, but I think PETA has gone over board!

I am glad they have found a way to use the dolphins, and they are trained to not get close to the mines!

This was the only article in The Post today that made me smile. God bless those sweet dolphins - they are keeping our troops safe.

Screw PETA. They're fanatics anyway.

I'm probably going to get a lot of p'oed people on this one, but animal rights is something I really believe in.

Of course, there are the reports by ex-trainers that the dolphins are beaten, and mistreated (I actually don't know how much I believe that, because everyone knows that you can't train an animal by beating them...so I can't imagine the NAVY doing that)

There are also other reports that 20% of the dolphins escape, with the muzzels still around their noses, and therefore not being able to eat, so god knows what happened to them.

But what really upsets me is the big picture, many other countries (Russia, China and others) are training dolphins to fight against the US...planting mines, blocking signals, etc...so what will our alternative be? Kill the 'enemy dolphins'.

Does this make sense? I believe in animal rights, but I'm not one of those freaky crazed people. I just wanted to voice my concerns. THis is our war, and I don't think we should be using animals to fight it.

Kathy...you bring up some good points...that I didn't think of...

I am assuming that the dolphins are treated well by the NAVY...and the NAVY definitely doesn't want the dolphins to die (otherwise you have to train more)

but we've always had animals in our military...ie horses...and an African nation offered monkeys that sacrifice their lives to get bombs/landmines...

Just because we've always had animals in the military, doesn't make it right. That's just my opinion (almost everyone in my family disagrees with me). It's nice to be able to voice our opinions like this, if I try talking to some people about controversial topics, all you get is hostility, and that really p*&%(sss me off.

DOLPHINS AND WAR!!! OMG!!

I love dolphins (its my sorority mascot) I even have a dolphin tattoo.

But to use a dolphin for war is just wrong. Dolphins are such wonderful and beautiful animals.

I hope whoever hurts a dolphin gets hurt.
