Yep...several times. I've been to Puerto Plata a few times and I LOVED it every time.

Yes, we have. My DH and I went there about 4 years ago. We stayed in Punta Cana at the all inclusive hotel Imbero Star. It was amazing. We only stayed for 4 nights, but it was so beautiful and the resort was fantastic. I wouldn't recommend going off the resort as it can be a bit dangerous and the natives tend to haggle you. If you plan on doing excursions, the bus/van picks you up and takes you to and from your hotel. We didn't have any problems.

We stayed in Punta Cana at the Riu Naiboa a couple of years ago and we're thinking of going to Puerto Plata for our 1 year anniversary. Punta Cana has nicer beaches, but it's also slightly more expensive. Just make sure whatever place you pick is big enough to entertain you- ample food choices, bars, a nightclub, etc... Also, check out any place you're interested in on www.tripadvisor.com.

I went with FH to Punta Cana 2 years ago. It was really nice the water was so clean. I stayed at Riu Bambu. I would recommend a different resort, it was pretty dull there.

Good Question?? We hardley ever call home when we are on vacation...probably because we don't have kids. I guess you could always buy a calling card. It's probably a lot cheaper than using your cell.

Cell phones don't work.
We have been there 2X...to Puerto Plata and Juan Dolio (near the capital). Next stop would be Punta Cana. DH's parents are from there so on our first trip we stopped off in Santiago and stayed at the house they had built there. Love DR, mostly because it's dumb cheap and all-inclusive.
I went to Playa Dorado/Puerto Plata in 2001, loved it. My DH went for a wedding last week, he and his friend caught something and he has already lost 14 pounds. What hotel are you staying at?
