Don't think we're gonna have a HM...

Don't think we're gonna have a HM...
So in addition to all these wedding expenses, FH and I are now buying a house. Which is great but the reality is we really don't think we're gonna have enough money to go on a HM. I know I should be happy that we're getting a house here on LI but I'm so bummed at the thought of not having a HM. I've been planning the wedding for over a year, almost two by the time we get married. I'd really like to have a HM! Do you think it's possible to go anywhere for a honeymoon for around $1500? Maybe even less?
Any help or ideas are welcome!!!!

Re: Don't think we're gonna have a HM...
well, you should be thrilled that you can buy a house on LI!! I know it's hard now, but you can always go away once you get settled. My FH and I bought a coop because we knew we wanted to start small so we would have extra $$. It's a very personal choice.Maybe you can go for a week somewhere local, just to get a way for a bit....

That's what we're thinking at this point. Possibly a week or long weekend in Montauk or the North Fork.

Aww....
Yes, get away for a long weekend, just so you can be together and relax!!!!
Then, go away when the funds aren't so limited.
Congratulations on the house!!!!
That's Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks... I am really excited about the house, but it's just dissappointing not to have that 'dream getaway' some many other brides talk about.
We've talked about doing somethink local for right after the wedding and then doing something big for our 1st anniversary.

Re: Don't think we're gonna have a HM...
can you go to a resort or nice hotel somewhere where you can drive to? if you can find a nice hotel for less than $100 a night (you can in many other places other than NY), you can stay for a week and still have $800 to spend on food, entertainment, etc.how about disneyworld? just don't stay in the park hotels, way too much $$$

We thought about FL (my parents have a home down there) but we're worried about the hurricanes.

Re: Don't think we're gonna have a HM...
Congrats on the house. September is a beautiful month so I am sure you will have many weekend get-a-away options.Maybe even a 2-3 night cruise out of NY?
A weekend upstate? We stayed at an all inclusive near Hunter one weekend called Villa Vosilio. It was nice, the crowd was much older but the place was really nice.
Mystic seaport in Conn. is beautiful.

Re: Don't think we're gonna have a HM...
I replied on the HM board, but here is my response:That is amazing that you're buying a house on LI! Congrats on that!!
What about a cruise to bermuda? It leaves from NY or NJ so no airfare! Check out this link: Bermuda Cruise out of NY/NJ
Some other options:
Niagara Falls
California (Napa, san fran, etc)
If you wait till the beg of '07 you'll have more options, since sept is hurricane season in FL and the caribbean.
Hope this helps!!

let me know if you find any good weekend places. i would like to go somewhere right after the wedding and staty another night or 2 after. maybe montaik, but i dont know where to stay. good luck! ~lacey

Re: Don't think we're gonna have a HM...
Florida has some nice places to visit for a few days, Georgia is nice (Savannah) also Maine, Martha's Vineyard, Mystic, Newport RIa weekend getaway honeymoon can definitely be done. don't let this get you down. you are being smart and thinking about your future. that is AWESOME...and will do so much more for you than a few weeks on a tropical island.
good luck and best wishes!

You can do Disney for under $1500. We've done it several times.

I agree with cruises and a trip to Miami or possibly Martha Vineyard or Block Island would be romantic!

Re: Don't think we're gonna have a HM...
Girls thank you so much! I'll definitely look into Bramuda that may be really nice...As for anything FL related it's alittle rough due to the hurricane season and after this year's season I'm not taking any chances!
But again, thank you all so much for the great suggestions and encouragement!!! I truly appreciate it!

Ocean Edge in Cape Cod is nice. You can stay in the main house overlooking the water. Jeff and I go every year :)

Some of these ideas sound great. Mystic CT, or a short cruise...great ideas. There's also AC, Mohegan Sun. You can drive up to Vermont or NH and stay in a great inn. Their are some adorable inns in New England. I stayed in a great inn in NH w/a four poster bed, fireplace, huge jacuzzi and more. I can't remember the name right now but if I do I will post. Good luck and congrats on the house!!! That really is a smarter choice than the 15K that we are wasting on our HM.

I did a search it's called the Wentworth. Check out their website. They have specials that include dinner and breakfast. http://www.thewentworth.com/spring-package.html

Re: Don't think we're gonna have a HM...
Look into Mohegan Sun. We went there for a few days and loved it. Not only do they have casinos, but great restaurants, shows and an amazing spa. We're going back for a couple's massage and other things. Also, they've got a fitness center, hot tub and a big pool in their hotel. If you go, I suggest going Sunday night and/or weekdays. The cost of the hotel is about double for the weekend. And there's less people on weekdays. They've got a website with prices and everything you want to know, including menus. Have fun!
