Don424, OctGroom, Boosh78201 and all the Mets fans...

Original post by FeliciaDA

Hey all .. I'm back. I knew that Don wouldn't waste much time posting about our bet and starting a thread about it And rightfully so , of course. You are the clear and undisputed winner, and shall be congratulated by me, as the loser...as much as it pains me

First of all congrats to the Mets fans this weekend...in particular my FH, Don and OctGroom. Your boys played well and deserved to sweep. The 'bragging rights' are yours....... at least for now. Enjoy it! I know us Yankee fans have enjoyed bragging rights ALL of the other times we've faced one another, (wink , wink) .. and so finally you've gotten your turn to experience what that feels like. You were the better team .. well ok, at least THIS weekend you were the better team!

Since I am a lady of my word, I am here to fulfill my terms of our bet. I have posted my a pic of myself in Mets garb in my avatar, along with Lets Go Mets as my chat title. FH took the picture and was thrilled to have me wear his Mets garb (hope he enjoyed it ... . This pic and chat title will remain up until a week from today, July 12.

Just a disclaimer: please excuse the 'green' Mets hat I am wearing (FH said to mention it was from 'Irish' night at Shea a few years ago...) With less than 3 weeks until our wedding, our apartment is filled to the brim with wedding stuff, and he could not find his regular Mets cap anywhere.. so I had to 'make due' with the green cap. As a rule (and to keep our relationship healthy) , we typically do NOT wear our respective Yankee and Mets garb around one another ... so most of our stuff is not readily available. That said, at least it has the METS logo on it!

Well that's about all, folks. I've fulfilled my terms of the 'loss' and will just have to 'grin and bear it' for a week on these boards. Enjoy your win, Mets fans... You won't hear much 'debating' or 'trash talking' out of me (really, what for?) but feel free to fire away the insults directed my way .. I can take it!!

I accept this temporary defeat graciously and quietly, and with the CLASS that beholds most of the diehard Yankee fans on these boards.

Just wait until next time .........

As for us, well Hell at least the Yankees beat managed to beat the Tigers last night... Thank Gawd! I'm not sure what I would have done if they lost AGAIN

Come on Felicia, my cousin's little league team could beat Detroit!

Ok Ok Ok .. I cannot argue with you on that count. Even I could probably get a base hit vs. the Tigers. But notoriously the Yankees never seem to play Detroit well for whatever reason, no matter HOW bad Detroit is.. Its one of those great mysteries of the baseball universe ....

By the way , I'm sorry that I neglected to include you in my subject line when offering my 'congrats' to the Mets fans on your sweep .. hope you had a great weekend and were able to rub it in to those members of your family that are Yankee fans .. Lord knows I haven't heard the end of it, nor will I anytime soon . Even the super at our building made a point of leaving a BROOM propped right in front of our front door Monday morning!

Felicia -- let me ask you this, how do you think it makes the Yankees look that they protested whether or not Posada was out

Hey, dont worry about it. I will admit that all three games were very good. IMO the best game was Saturday, when you didnt know who was going to win, it kept going back and forth, thats a great game!!

I was actually going to borrow my super's broom and bring it in today. There are alot of big Yankee fans here at my job.

While I think it is always important for a manager to come out to argue a play or umpire call that is questionable, truthfully (and as much as it pains me to trash my own team) I think it was totally uncalled for to protest the game altogether.

Playing the game under protest at that point only screamed out that we were frustrated at being beat up by the Mets, and it made us look petty, bitter, and like total sore losers at that point. As a Yankee fan who prides myself on the 'pride' of the team, crying 'foul' is just embarrassing.

Esp. when Torre came out with a statement like this (and I quote from Yankees.com):

After the game, Torre hinted that the play was a judgment call for Cooper, and that he had in fact made the right call.

'The ruling was that the second baseman had an opportunity, too, but just to get it right, but I figured I'd lose nothing by [filing the protest],' Torre said. 'It's an umpire's decision, but I didn't want to find out that the rule was other than what they stated to me. I did it as a safety net. I came in and checked it after the game, and if the umpire says that in his estimation that the second baseman has a chance to catch the ball, then he made the right call.'

Uh , hello? Mr. Torre says he 'figures I'd lose nothing by filing the protest??' when he basically stated in the same sentence that the ump 'most likely' made the correct calll? Well that just clear annoyed the crap out of me

Then again, let me add that I'm probably one of the FEW YANKEE fans who doesn't think Joe Torre is 'God.' Quite the contrary, I often question his managerial decisions and truly believe he just isn't all he's cracked up to be.. he's just been very lucky to have been blessed with terrific coaches and an amazing group of players for these past 8 years. Let me just leave it at that before I get into trouble, since I'm well aware that my feelings about Torre are VERY unpopular opinion amongst my fellow Yankee fans who hold him in the highest regards. I'll probably be killed for that statement if I were to elaborate........

Lets face it - it is frustarting for all baseball fans , who can agree that really bad or completely incorrect calls are an unfortunate part of the game, and sometimes (not in this case) but sometimes can affect the outcome of a game. The Yankees were going to lose no matter what. But as long as 'instant replay' is not a part of baseball, these types of situations will continue to happen...

Re: Don424, OctGroom and all the Mets fans...

yeah, arguing is one thing, protesting was just plain petty

See, Torre is a good manager, I don't think he's as great as alot of the faithful do. Before the Yanks, he was fired from every managing job he had. But, with the Yanks he's blessed with great players. Same deal as Phil Jackson- Jordan and Shaq made him great.

The only truly great coach is Bill Parcells, who can take any team and make them contenders. Of course, I don't care fom him presonally

Re: Don424, OctGroom, Boosh78201 and all the Mets fans...

After watching this weekend series... I have come to the conclusion that Torre is just as inept a manager as Howe is.

Both of them do not have a clue on how to manage a National League game without a DH.

Howe's hesitance on Stanton on Saturday was a classic example. When the camera went to Howe and Baylor looking at the lineup card, they looked like a deer in the headlights. Why wait till the START of the next inning to take him out? All you end up doing is piss off one of your players. Don't you find it mildly ironic that Stanton then gives up critical runs in the next game?

And Torre... how can you have perhaps the best closer in baseball sitting in the bullpen for BOTH Saturday and Sunday's game? I betcha if they brought Rivera in to pitch the 9th... the Yanks possibly win that game. How can you leave your closer in the bullpen in the bottom of the 9th with the Mets 2-3-4 coming up. My FW told me that since he pitched two innings on Thursday he was not available. Thats total BS IMO... he had a day rest. Sunday was the same thing to a lesser extent.

Anyways... thats just my two cents. They both suck IMO.

I'll take Torre over a Howe or Valentine.
But his decision making in the Mets series concerning not using Rivera made me think he was in the club house with Grant Roberts smoking the wacky tobackky.

Scary for ME (of all people) to say this .... but I actually have to AGREE with the METS fans on the boards regarding these sentiments!! Torre was asleep at the wheel in particular on that one..

Oh CRAP ! I've only been wearing the Mets garb on the site for 2 days and ALREADY you people are rubbing off on me!!

That's what you are HOPING she'll want to do, OctG .. I'm SURE she might actually want to watch the Yanks in the WS on your HM if that indeed is the case Now that would be a HM to remember

Actually during the World Series between the Yanks/Mets I happened to be in Orlando on a long- planned vacation with a friend for part of the playoffs and the first two WS games. My girlfriend could care less about baseball altogether, so I pretty much ruined most of her Disney vacation by spending my free time at the ESPN Zone (heck, I have my priorities!). Lots of Yankee fans in Florida to have fun celebrating with, anyhow

I will enrapture her with my masculine wiles..

and she will lose all interest in the Yanks ..

and then turn her back on the Yanks because they displease me.
