has anyone donated any surplus wedding food to Island Harvest? Their website says it doesn't add any cost or whatnot to the wedding but i wanted to make sure it also doesn't cause any kind of frustrations or annoyances or whatnot.
any info on this?
TIA

I want to do this as well, but you have to ask your RH about it. I think there are only certain things you can donate, and only a certain period of time can go be before they have to throw it away. Definitely talk to your RH about it.

Re: donating surplus food to Island Harvest
so I just spoke with Island Harvest (call Frank at 516-805-1639) ... he said all i need to do is to tell the RH that he'll be contacting them soon.
i called the RH (prob should've done this first) and was told that they already donate all surplus food so island harvest is not necessary.
so i'm happy now ... loving that WCC is considerate to those who are less fortunate.

Re: donating surplus food to Island Harvest
Some RH halls do it automatically give your RH a call. As for it violating a health code I believe that is false and the RH is protected by The 'Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act' (Public Law 104-210). It makes it easier for businesses to donate to food banks and food rescue programs. It protects donors from liability when donating to nonprofit organizations and protects donors from civil and criminal liability should the product donated in good faith later cause harm to the needy recipient.

Hi! I've thought about doing this as well but to City Harvest. Will Island Harvest charge to come out to your RH to get the food? I kinda doubt that the venue will bring the food TO Island Harvest. And I'm a bit worried about the health code thing as well.
Def ask your venue. I've yet to ask mine.

@AwaitingAugust, That's FANTASTIC!!! I'm def going to ask my venue now!

yeah, i was happy
the way Island Harvest WOULD have worked (lol) is that they would deliver containers to the RH sometime before the wedding ... then, the RH would pack up any extra food after the wedding's over and Island Harvest wil come pick up the containers the following day. Everything is absolutely free for us.
HTH and good luck with your RH
