Done with Low Carb - Need Advice on healthy eating

Done with Low Carb - Need Advice on healthy eating

The first two weeks were good. I lost 7lbs. By the third week I gained back 1 pound. I have been so lazy and have no motivation to do anything, that I think it may be caused by the way I am eating.

I don't want to go back to weight watchers or start Body for Life, or south beach or any other program. I am thinking of just trying to eat healthy and make good choices when it comes to what foods to eat.

So instead of having eggs and cheese for breakfast like I can have on Atkins, what are some good ideas for me to eat? I was thinking of breaking my breakfast up and having Fruit salad around 8:30am and around 10am having a packet of regular oatmeal. Is that a good idea?

I have to go food shopping today and pick up fruits, veggies, whole grain bread, whole wheat Pasta, and Brown rice. I am going to avoid white foods.

Any other good pointers???

As for excersize, I am going to get back into WATP, and Tae Bo, and when it gets warmer out....Walking 3 miles a day.

Whole wheat pasta is GOOD! Try the Ronzoni Healthy Harvest. We got that a few times, then we didn't see it so we got another brand which was not nearly as good.

I am not a big breakfast person and I just started BFL, which works well for me in the morning.

What about Shredded Wheat and Bran with some fresh fruit? Sliced banana is really good on top. From your list it seems like you're off to a good start.

Maybe in the future I will try BFL, but right now I am not excersizing at all and I am just starting out...I know you have to do a lot of excersize for BFL to work...So maybe I will try to program myself to excersize, and then I will see what happens.

Scott - why no WW?
I have been very successful so far with it- and really don't feel like I am on a diet.

Why no WW----Well I was on it last year and I lost 15lbs....but I was always sooo hungry. I hate knowing that I am on a diet.

I think eating in moderation, stopping when I am full, eating lots of veggies and fruits, and whole grain foods will really help me.

So far today I had a bowl of cut up canteloup, honeydew, grapes, apples, and oranges....It was yummy and a banana.

At around 10am I will have some oatmeal

That should hold me.....

And of course drink plenty of water.

I arranged walking at lunch time with a few people at work. Of course we cant go today though...because it is cold and rainy yuk...

If you get tired of regular oatmeal, I have a recipe for Baked Oatmeal that is the most delicious thing ever - it's like eating warm oatmeal raisin cookie dough. Yummmmy. It's from Cooking Light magazine, so it's low fat. Let me know if you'd like the recipe. I make it every weekend for my DH so I have it memorized!

Speaking of Cooking Light, it's a wonderful magazine with tons of really good, lowfat recipes and advice on exercise and following a healthy lifestyle. Some of it is geared towards women (makeup and skin care stuff) but I highly recommend it.

Don't forget protein - chicken, fish, pork and very limited red meat.
I agree with TwoBugs on Cooking Light - they have a lot of good recipes. I'm making one of them tonight!

don't eat too much fruit. Too much sugar.

Eat regular oatmeal if you can, more than instant. (but that's if you are a psycho dieter)

eat small meals throughout the day. I do this regularly and I love to eat soooo much! I love knowing I can eat again in two hours!

Stock up on the good foods to eat and make portions that are just one serving so you don't eat too much at one sitting.

If you like to eat fruit, have it after weight trainning and in the AM when your blood sugar is low, and your body could use it.

Hope these can help. Now you just made me more motivated to work out and eat well! Thanks!

Well i really cant eat too much fruit anyway....

But for breakfast today I had a bowl of fruit salad and a banana, then 2 hours later I had a packet of oatmeal with no splenda....

For lunch I had a salad with balsamic vinegar.

Dont know what I am having for dinner yet, gotta go food shopping after work

you hadn't had any protein at all yet!!!!! Shame on you!

you should eat protein with every meal! At least 15-30 grams per meal. You metabolism is going to slow down, and you will loose muscle! Now go have a protein shake...quick, before it's too late!!

Scott, I am not trying to be cult-like, but the WW core program might work for you. You don't have to count points and as long as you stick with the list of foods, you just eat until you are full.

Other ideas - I love to eat egg white omelettes for breakfast if I have the time to cook them. I also buy whole wheat english muffins - Thomas's has these whole grain and honey wheat ones now that kick a$$.

I also love Boca burgers - not the same as meat, but a good protein source without a lot of the fat. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they have tons of unusual, healthy things to eat.

I don't watch my caloric intake that religiously so much as I try to eat non-processed foods. This probably does keep my caloric intake down in itself, but I have found that eating non-processed foods certainly helps me!!

I eat a lot of fish, vegetables, fruit, chicken, whole grains and usually a dessert item like twice a week.

After a while your body will start craving healthy foods.
