When everyone keeps saying how much they're splurging, I keep getting sad that I don't have much extra money to splurge on things, as I'm trying to save for the honeymoon/wedding rings...
...so here's the question: Do you ladies just throw stuff on the credit card and pay the minimum balance each month? how do you do it?
Only asking because I might just bite the bullet and just for this year put stuff on my card and worry about just paying the minimum balance and then pay the rest after the wedding.
Honestly, thank you in advance for any answers you want to share!

Well our problem is, we didn't set a budget! We have money saved and thats what we've been using.

IMO (and this is only my opinion!) it's not worth the splurge and the debt unless it's on something that makes memories like maybe the photographer. And if you do splurge on the photog, I'd cut back on some of the extras.
It's only a party that lasts for a couple of hours. Having extra special favors or a really expensive gown is a nice perk but would you rather have those things or a house or less debt or have a baby?
I'm actually seriously wishing that we had gone a little more conservative on certain things and we're not even charging anything. We've been good savers and we're getting help but I'd rather keep all that money we saved and not have to give it away.
You can have a beautiful wedding for any budget. I wouldn't start racking up the credit card debt just yet.

Honestly we didn't set a budget.. We're using what we have saved for the wedding and when that runs out then we'll deal with it.. We're not big on credit cards. We have 3 each for in case of emergencies... that is all..

Honestly, really honestly....I make over 100 grand AND I moved back home with my parents in order to pay cash for the wedding and not effect my savings.
I wouldn't feel bad AT ALL. I can't imagine paying my old rent and paying for a wedding. I would imagine LOTS of people get help from parents (like me with free rent) or are using credit cards. Do the best you can and don't sweat the 'splurges'...your day will be amazing whether or not there's cry packs/slippers ect.

Im not doing much splurging. Im actually counting on my tax refund to pay for a large chunk of things.
We pay everything with cash. Credit cards are a bad idea. For something thats supposed to cost $2500 could end up costing you double by the time you pay it off.

when FH proposed he opened a savings account for us where he banks. so every week we put money in the account and when it comes time for a wedding bill we just take it out of there

I honestly am trying my very best NOT to use my credit cards at all..I may use them for a $20 purchase here and there, but I'm tyring to get them at a 0 balance by the wedding. It's hard...
I also put a large amount of my pay away each week just to stick to my savings plan...I made FH do the same amount as me LOL We are both paying for this wedding 50/50

I pay my charge bills in full every month [ I never pay less than the full amount]. Honestly, I would try to avoid charging and paying the minimum. You don't need to incur those exepnses. Your wedding will be beautiful without splurges.
Honestly, for us, we are able to do it because we are paying for our whole wedding [so nobody else is incurring teh pain] and we aren't very young. I am 29, he is 30. Although ur wedding has many splurges, we are not emptying our bank accounts for it and what we are doing is within our means. We are able to do it because we are older, have worked for a while and have good jobs and ample savings. If we got married younger or didn't have the jobs or savings we do I would be spending a lot less and my day would be just as special.
People have different budgets and means - but their weddings will be no more or less beautiful or special than yours.
I know people see things on here and of course you want them or wish you have them but remember - your wedding is about you and not about keeping up with anyone else.

We are paying cash for everything. If something at the last minute comes up and I mean emergency then we will use a credit card. If I cant pay cash for it, then I dont need it, that is just my opinion. I have a mortgage so that is the main priority.

I know it is tough but don't do that unless it is a super last resort. That will get you into trouble and will add up and it is not good. Really try not to do that. Then you will be stuck trying to pay it off and it feels like you never have enough money to pay it.
Re: Don't answer if its too personal/intrusive but...
no charging for us...cash for everything...we have cut back on our usual lifestyles though...havent gone away or out as much this year. i am just so anti credit card debt...we want to buy a house and debt because of a wedding is just not something we were willing to do.

we set a budget. only once did we go over on something because we really wanted to get a DOC so we would enjoy the day. everything else we have a specific amount we wanted to spend and either spent that exact amount or saved. we've asked a lot of friends to do stuff and bought things when it was on sale, etc. so we could save money. we are only putting one thing on the CC.

We are paying cash for everything and not using our cc. It is hard because there are a lot of things that Im just not having or getting for my wedding but the reality is I just cant afford it! and my wedding will be just as nice whether i have the fancy $5 favors or not....not that I wouldnt want them if I could Yes It is the most important day of your life but it is just 1 day!

Re: Don't answer if its too personal/intrusive but...
as we go through the planning process and how much things cost, the more we realized that we need to focus on what the day is. we don't want to go into debt paying for a wedding and we want it to be an enjoyable day where everyone will have fun and that's all that matters. so we aren't going outside of our means and making it just as special with the things we are doing.

Dont drive yourself crazy because of what you read here on the boards!! You have to do what you can do and thats it. Alot of people live at home with there parents, & yes charge CC.. but dont start that to have a couple of items that will probaly go unnoticed anyway. Me & FH are paying for the wedding with Cash only.. we moved it to Oct from June... to help.. we are minimizing photography... small Centerpices.. things like that.. We also have 2 car notes, a condo we pay extra on everymonth ( investment ) our reg bills including mortgage, heat, lights, cable, 2 kids, etc..BUT we refuse to charge $1.00!!! Do what you can ... when you can.... dont stress it will all work out.. and if you do charge anything.. just dont go overboard!

Re: Don't answer if its too personal/intrusive but...
we were given a good amt towards the wedding by family so i throw it all on the CC and have been able to pay it off completely each month...
if you are in good standing with your CC company.. ask them to lower the interest rate ... i did it with mine about a yr or so ago .... this should help a bit

We spent only what we wanted to ensure that we didn't have any credit card debt after the wedding.
