When everyone keeps saying how much they're splurging, I keep getting sad that I don't have much extra money to splurge on things, as I'm trying to save for the honeymoon/wedding rings...
...so here's the question: Do you ladies just throw stuff on the credit card and pay the minimum balance each month? how do you do it?
Only asking because I might just bite the bullet and just for this year put stuff on my card and worry about just paying the minimum balance and then pay the rest after the wedding.
Honestly, thank you in advance for any answers you want to share!

Re: Don't answer if its too personal/intrusive but...
The budget I set was not the budget I wanted however, given the cost of things on the island and what I wanted in a wedding, I had to adjust it. Most of my items have come in on or around my budget. Some are slightly over and some are under. I think I am on pace for the budget I have set. With regard to paying for items until now everything has been paid with check or credit card. If a credit card was used, the balance has been paid completely. I am 3.5 months out. I will have to carry a balance for the RH costs but FH and I are prepared to do so. Other than that, most items are being paid for with money that has been saved. FH and I are very frugal with money. We don't go out to eat. The heat is kept very low. The AC rarely used. Clothes are hung to dry and only fluffed in the dryer. That has been very helpful in budgeting money.

We dont put anything wedding related on the credit card. We need to have the cash for something before booking or check whether it will be in the budget. We made a budget for our wedding that does not include our honeymoon. I have 'splurged' on some things, but then I've cut back on others so it works itself out.

I made a budget for the wedding that ive stuck to, so we are paying cash for everything, except the honeymoon...that is being charged and paid back when we get home!

We didn't set a budget. We saved like crazy to pay what we could for the RH, but, we also knew that DH parents would be giving us a nice amount of $$ as a wedding gift to be used as payment for the RH. My parents chipped in what they could. The amount that they gave us paid for our flowers and part of the DJ. The rest, well, we splurged on a REALLY good photog and put it on the CC. We got a joint CC to just use for wedding related purchased. At the end, our total was 9k. Not too bad considering. We made out really well gift wise at the wedding. We made enough to pay off our joint CC and still put a lot into our Money Market. Oh, and FYI, we had NO add on's at our reception. It wasn't needed.

for the wedding...we set a strict budget and are sticking too it...we opened a joint account and deposit money into every week (FH= $100, me= $50, but i gave the inital $ 5000 to it) and everything is paid with either cash or check or our debit card.
my personal stuff...i was student teaching and making no money, so everything went on credit cards...which i am now paying for like crazy! i never just make the minimum payments, i always try to pay between $150 and $200 a month
its really really hard

Ok, we're sticking to our budget too, just wasn't sure if people were just charging everything. Ben and I have a joint account that we add to each week and stuff..
...if only I can win the lottery

we charge what we can pay each month. we NEVER carry a balance and pay credit cards off in full every month.

That's what I do, also - I want to maintain my high credit score.

Re: Don't answer if its too personal/intrusive but...
I personally didnt put anything on credit card...what FH and I did is that throughout the year we put deposits down and now since were close to the wedding...when we get paid we put a little something down on each vendor so that way we dont have so much to pay at the wedding and dont have to use all of our gift money.....
I only did things that were important and needed and eliminated stuff like OOT baskets, ice, slippers, doves and all that unecessary stuff but its up to you
be careful with credit cards...if you pay them off right away you are good but if you continue with minimum payments then that interest will add u quick!

Re: Don't answer if its too personal/intrusive but...
I charge everything on a credit card, get cash back, and pay off the credit card each month. So far, I've made over $300 from cc and that's helped me pay for invitations. FH, when he bought my ring, he charged the whole thing, and got several hundred back then paid off the balance. Both myself and FH are young and FH is still in school, so we're on a tight budget. I did a lot of research, and looked for loop holes in the financial system. For example, with our honeymoon, we charged the honeymoon, then immediately opened another cc and transferred the balance at zero interest until 2010. So in the end, we got money back for the honeymoon from cc #1 and since there's no interest charged on cc #2 until 2010, I can pay off the minimum until the wedding. Again, all of this is being done knowing that we are going to get a huge chunk of money from the wedding.
Trust me, this whole planning has been grueling, but I've found a way for it to work without being in any huge debt. Hope this helps!

we have paid for everything in cash except for the invitations and when the bill comes we will pay for it in full most likely. the only other thing we might have to charge is the bridal party gifts and the favors. and those will be paid when the bill come in as well.

I just really cut back on buying clothing and things like that and we will have been engaged for 2 years so we didn't have to get everything all at once, which helped to soften the blow of the bills.
I would advise not loading up your CC and paying the min. just for the wedding. The wedding will be perfect whether you put 10K or 100K into it. Just decide on the must haves are and don't feel the need to have everything. We are cutting a lot, like limos, and flowers as CPs, just stuff that would add up and for me are not necessity. But don't screw your credit up for one day.

i only float stuff on the credit card, and i pay it before i charge something new. we just planned out our expenses over the 2 year engagement and i have a general idea of what we can afford. we're trying to stay out of debt so we can get the --->
