Dont know how to feel...

Hmmm ok, so i am getting married on 10/10 this year.
my cousins is having he sweet 16 at the end of the month. (not a problem i should have realized it was her sweet 16 but i book like 2 yrs ago and wasn't thing of this)
anyhow she is having a 'super' sweet 16 at crest hollow with almost twice as many people at my wedding (like 300+) with all the extras...its costing them like $250 a person not counting all the extras,
now granted i am having a fairly lavish wedding and i am doing it just how FH and I want it but my cousins luterally are millionaires and well im not lol. I just feel liek 3 weeks after my wedding people will go to her party and be like wow this is better than so and so's wedding.
maybe i am just being silly....actually my family is not judgmental like that, with a few exceptions and honestly the out of town fam coming in for my wedding already say there not coming back for her party. my fam will prob think her party is a bit ridiculous but still i dont want my wedding to be upstaged by a 'super sweet 16'

Honestly, there's nothing that you can do. So, I'd say...don't let it aggravate you, ENJOY the planning of your wedding, it's YOUR DAY. Some of the funnest weddings I've been to were honestly the ones where they couldn't afford even a formal RH....SO, all the $$$ in the world doesn't mean it will be a memorable one...it's the people & the love of those for you. Like you said, there will be people attending your wedding that already said they are not going to her super sweet 16....hmmm.

Oh boy...well the that only thing you can do is know that people realize this is your WEDDING and that is such a great celebration...she's turning 16 SO WHAT! Everyone turns 16! Your wedding is going to be beautiful and will reflect you and FH. I would imagine if you had a $200,000 wedding at the Ritz it WOULD'NT
be 'you' just like that's not 'me'. You don't want your wedding to be fake and I imagine most will think that type of sweet 16 is RIDICULOUS!

edited for spelling!!!

don't even put another thought into it! It's your wedding and it's exactly how you want it. It will be perfect!

Re: Dont know how to feel...

your being silly...

My cousins spent 300 a person and their wedding (nevermind the extras like the entertainment, the 12 person live band, etc etc) it was dull, thoghtless, uninspired.

I left early after 3/4 of my table left ... they left before the cake cutting. Seriously $ doesn't do it.

Its not about the money, its about the wedding and what it really means. I think when you have a great couple thats in love its the best wedding, cause they make the sparkle and the glow, that no centerpeice and no chandelier and no crystal and no diamonds can.

I love going to cheap weddings cause you have nothing to look at but the couple and you can really see what your there for.

My other cousin spent $30 a person and we had a blast, it was sweet and lovely.

Thats so crazy that she's having a party like that at 16 YEARS OLD....but don't worry - yours will be MUCH more special because a wedding is always more special than a sweet 16! :)

People might be more confused about why anyone would have a party like that at 16! I wouldn't worry! Weddings have heart to them, that's what is important.

Oh no dont even worry about that. Whenever I see that show SUper Sweet 16 I cant beleive how much over the top they are. It always seems too flashy and so rediculoius.
I think everyone is going to love your wedding and thing that it is just going to be perfect. I wouldnt worry about the sweet 16 a few weeks later. You have your special day planned and it will be just perfect. Dont worry at all

Re: Dont know how to feel...

I wouldn't worry about a sweet 16. Most adults will enjoy themselves more at a wedding rather than a sweet 16. A sweet 16 focuses alot more on the friends, lets be honest at 16 you prefer to fill up the place with friends and dancing all night with them on the dancefloor. It will be mostly young teenagers on the dancefloor, probably acting a bit rowdy and trying to take over the dancefloor. I am sure some adults wont even want to dance bc of that. When i think about going to a party and enjoying myself, i dont think about dancing with teenagers, i probably would sit back and just let them dance and have fun. At a wedding though ill dance most of the night

i think these super sweet 16's are getting WAY out of hand, its ridiculous. If they do this for their sweet 16, W** are they going to do for their weddings you cant even blame the kid, its the parents who agree to it. Its funny bc the parents will pay all this money too for the kids sweet 16 party and lets be honest, half the ppl who go to the party, well the friends i mean dont even REALLY care about the person. They just want to be at a party, you have a few good friends who will care but youre throwing a party for ppl who just want to party and say they went in case it turns out to be good. My kids better not even ask for a sweet 16 this big lol, i dont know why but it annoys me, when i watch that show on MTV i think its ridiculous and pointless

dont let it get to you....your wedding will be beautiful & memorable...and honestly, most people will probably be saying 'this is RIDICULOUS for a sweet16..what the heck are they gonna do for a wedding??' so again, try not to let it bother you. Weddings are about celebrating the love between two people...that alone makes it special. a sweet16 is nothing more then a birthday party that will only seem 'so extravagant' to the teenagers that are there... don't drive yourself crazy by trying to out-do her or even let thoughts enter your head like this post..it'll only rob your joy... instead enjoy every second of ur day, planning, etc. & know that other people will be enjoying it too!

in my opinion, you can't compare a sweet 16 to a wedding and i don't care how 'super' it is. completely different ends of the spectrum, i don't think you have anything to be worried about! i think it's probably intimidating because sweet sixteen parties have gotten out of control... what happened to backyard and basement parties for teenagers???

I had a friend when I was 16 who actually had her SUPER sweet 16 at Majestic Gardens (where you're having your wedding I see!) and she wore a big white dress--her parents said it's either a big sweet 16 or a big wedding...and she decided she wanted the party NOW! I thought she was crazy, although the party was really fun--but honestly, having 300 ppl at a sweet 16 is ridiculous! I had fun but I thought she was crazy, and I was also 16!

Your wedding will be fabulous, who cares about your spoiled cousin!

PS: Majestic Gardens really does a nice job!! You will love it!

2 years ago i went to a 90k wedding... the wedding was nice (nothing spectacular) but the marriage only lasted 10 months... it just goes to show... some spoiled girls 'super' sweet 16 will come and go but the love you and your fh have will last a lifetime...no matter how much money you spend on it !!!

Re: Dont know how to feel...

i think you should just worry about your big day and not her big day. i'm not going to say that a wedding is more important than a sweet 16 because ultimately that's not the point. but it is 2 different events, with 2 totally different meanings. worrying about what other people might think is only going to stress you out more and you don't need that stress 2 months before your wedding.

ITA.

You can't control the timing of it, so just focus on your special day and soak it all in (cause it goes by in a flash!).

people probably won't even realize the difference between a 250pp and a 135pp (or however much it is)...to be honest, i would think that majestic gardens is more expensive than crest hollow anyway...look on the bright side, at least yours isn't going to be at the same place as the sweet 16, then i'd be worried about comparison...add something extra to yours if you feel real bad..i've went to extraordinary sweet 16s in my day at russos on the bay and what not...it's whatever though, you are getting MARRIED to the man of your dreams in a beautiful place! and you get to go to this sweet 16 with your HUSBAND! everyone will be excited to see the two of you as well!

I completely agree.. FH actually said just before, the wedding itself shouldn't matter- whether it is at the Taj Mahal or ontop of a picnic table- it is what it represents.

Listen as long as you are doing the wedding how YOU want- who cares what everyone else thinks. I know that is easier said than done but in the end you are married and you had a great time and what everyone else thinks doesn't matter.

I understand where you are coming from and honestly that would pop into my head too. But the other girls are correct.. cant do anything about it.. Plus I think Denise was right that adults enjoy weddings rather than a sweet 16 any day!
