i just noticed that my diamond has a big black speck in the middle of it! i mean you cant reaallly see it unless you look at it really closely, but nonetheless its a speck that you can see with the naked eye! i know FH spent a decent amount of $$ on it and the appraisal says VS2. what should i do? should i get it appraised somewhere else ?(the appraisal we have is from where he bought it)
does anyone else have this on their diamond?

If you look through the side of my diamond you can see a couple tiny black specs...nothing through the top though. Is it very noticeable?

what does your GSI report say?
Are you talking about like half wa through its like a line that goes across? that you can see from the side?

make sure the spot is from the diamond and not the setting. like where the prongs are. sometimes the actual ring makes the diamond look like it has a black spot... hope that makes sense

no you can only see it from the top (probably cuz the sides are so dirty). its definately in the middle of the diamond. FH doesnt want me to obsess about it he says VS2 means u can sometimes see imperfections with the naked eye but im like this is a big friggin speck

OH NO!!! def get it appraised somewhere else.. c my ring is colorless but has SI1 inclusion and I cant see a speck at all... its def super clear in my eyes and can only be seen to the naked eye.. so if they claim its VS2 u should def not see any black spec at all.. definately look into it

i dont think you are supposed to be able to see anything with the naked eye with VV grades - i thought when you get down into the S and I grades that is when you can see inclusions with the naked eye? i cant remember?
i do have a ring - a cocktail ring - and the center stone is a 1/2 carat diamond and its a really crappy stone - the ring is from zales - so the stone wasnt handpicked - it just came with the ring - it did have a little laminated card with it that had the quality of the diamond on it - but it wasnt GIA - it was some other kind - so its not the best - def not engagement ring quality b/c its has the inclusion, its cloudy and you can see that its not as white as my e-ring - but anyway in that stone i can see a little speck with the naked eye - it took me about a year to find it but now everytime i look at the ring its the first thing i see! i think its carbon or something??
if you have the GIA report for your diamond you should be able to tell just by that if its an inclusion or not

i cant remember, i would google diamond clarity and read whatever goes along with what your GIA says just to be sure....if it turns out that you can see something that shouldnt be there go back to where you got your diamond....
i know when i got my diamond appraised at macys she looked at my stone first - and then told me everything that was on my GIA report without even looking at the report....then she took the report and said that my GIA report was def for my diamond - its like your diamonds ID....

OMG! Maybe it is just dirty and needs to be cleaned, wouldnt you have noticed it before? Look to see what it is appraised for and go get a second one. Then see how much FH paid for it compared to the second appraisal (if he will tell you). If it is a difference you need to go back to the place he bought it from

The black is Carbon. My ring is VERY nice, but if you know where to look you can see the carbon.
Make sure the diamond you had apraised is the diamond you paid for.

If the sides are dirty I would just get it cleaned. A week after I got my ring I thought I saw a spot in it and freaked out... but then I cleaned it and it was fine... it could be a reflection of the dirt on the sides or something... it is amazing how a tiny speck of dust can look like a flaw.
