Dont know the first thing about bargaining...

HI!!!
I've been engaged for a little over a month and we started looking at the halls! very stressed out!! the majority of the bill will be paid by my fiance, which i want to find the best deal out there.
i was given a quote of 92 pp for a saturday afternoon next april.
we are looking at either next april or next oct. i know its a big difference...

do i settle wiht the 92 or bargain down and if so HOW!!!

please help...thanks

Re: Dont know the first thing about bargaining...

some places will take down a few dollars of the per head price. Some won't unless you up the amount of people you will guarantee. Some places won't lower the per head price but will throw a lot of stuff in to get you to book. Go for the per head price first and then try to get stuff that you like thrown in, (i.e. extra station at CH, extra dessert if you are not doing VH, martini bar, etc)

It only hurts you if you don't try!

You usually can get a lower pp price by upping your guarantee number.

Also, 92 is without tax and grat, most likely, and turns into 115ish. Be aware of that.

If you ask for some upgrades to be thrown in, they should accommodate you. I got an option of filet mignon and shrimp scampi as a part of the Dinner Menu, which were normally upgrades but now free of charge.

Good luck!

Where are you looking?

Re: Dont know the first thing about bargaining...

I think quotes for April will be lower than quotes for October, since October is a more popular month.

Tell the caterer 'I was hoping to pay around $85 (or whatever) per person. Could we work something out?' Don't be afraid to ask, I go my minimum talked down from 125 to 100, which will save me thousands.

Even if you cant bring the price down they might throw in a few extras to make you feel better about what your price.

Cant hurt to try anything. My FH thinks of himself as the best bargainer ever so I actually was starting to get embarrassed at some points but it worked LOL me on the otherhand I wouldn't even know the first part of it LOL

Re: Dont know the first thing about bargaining...

Can I borrow your FH for bargaining...lol

$92 was with tax and everythign else included...so i think its a pretty good deal, but my MOH think i can get them to lower it.

i've checked out:
Chateau
Fox Hollow
Thatched Cottage
GW Manor (HORRIBLE)
Stuart Thomas
and will be going to a few more...

any recommendations?

did you find the hall you want?? Once you know you want to sign with them its easier to bargain or get more things included.

Problem is I keep looking and looking...
Chatau Briand is really nice! really like them. probably my top choice bc of location.
Thatched Cottage was a top choice but the location is no where near high ways and all are guest are mostly from queens.
Fox Hollow my favorit but pricey...
Might look at the Metropolitan next weekend.
Both of us lost a parent so its hard planning bc it get emotional thinking about that day.
so i'd like it a little low key but fun!!

They're more likely to throw things in for free, or lower the price if you offer to get rid of something- ie. carving station

Sorry to hear about your parents

my FH just kept telling me 'show no emotion' even tho i did a horrible job of that lol
if you like Fox try to see what they can do with everything. just keep in mind there is always some wiggle room with every quote.

Thanks irisheyez...
plus there is no wedding without family drama!!
lol...

i was horrible with the 'no show' emotions...Fox Hollow won me over when he said 'free' ice sculpture and 4 tier cake and then gave me a stuffed toy fox...lol. ah the little things.

i think i'm calling Chateau back to go back with my FH. he is very charming and maybe he can get something taken off...even though $92 sounds good! but there is always room to wiggle. my MOH said that the times i'm looking at are usually bridal showers, baby showers, and small parties not weddings. so they WANT me! they need to win me over!!!
I'm a social worker...i'm a people pleaser!

You should be able to get most places down 5pp. When he did it we asked for three things (ex. ceremony fee, martini louge, etc.) and let them choose what they were willling to do.

It wont hurt to try and negotiate. Even if they wont come down on the price they may throw in some extras for free.
