Don't know what to do... is this really a big deal?
Hey Ladies,
I need some advice. My bridal shower is not a surprise because none of my bridesmaids live on Long Island and I wanted to help my mom a little. Anyway, everything for my bridal shower is set up- its about a month away and the RSVP date is is on saturday. The place where my bridal shower is being held is now under new management (although I think the same owners) and has a new menu. My mom and I went there today to go over the contract. We did not hit it off with the new manager. Basically, we were told that if we paid cash we would not have to pay taxes. On our contract it says 'the price + gratuity= this per person for cash' and he said that doesn't mean anything to him. Which I can see what he is saying, because it does not say anywhere for cash, no taxes. But needless to say my mom got a little upset. Not like a huge scene, but he was kind of a jerk. Paying the extra money isn't a huge deal or anything, now my parents will just pay on credit card. I am just worried that he won't honor our menu. I am also a little worried we won't get great service because he already doesn't like us. Do you think its way to late to change venues?? Maybe if we sent something else out to all the ladies that are coming? or is this nothing to worry about? Thanks so much for the advice!!!

Is there a different manager you can speak with? Maybe having someone else to deal with would ease your mind?
I tend to think that with a month to go, changing the venue would be a huge hassle. Most places will not refund your deposit unless they can rebook the date, which on a month's notice could be tricky. You'd also have some confusion with your guests.
Only you can decide if your misgivings with the venue outweigh the burden of changing locations.
Good luck! I'm sure no matter what your shower will be beautiful!

I agree.
The 'cash' price is so *HE* does not have to pay taxes on the party. Plus, the restaurant also has to pay a fee to the credit card company when you use a CC.
Pay by credit card and be done with it.
See if you can get a different manager, but dont worry. It will be fine.
I just think at this late date you should not change the venue.

you should say well isn't it illegal for you not to charge tax? we might as well just charge it. that'll make him nervous

I would say go with your gut. . if you don't trust the place it's really not to late to change. . I mean I think the place will be fine so don't panic on that side but if you can get out of it w/o losing money and I suspect you could in this situation. . all you would have to do is send an address change. . just pick something nearby in case anyone made travel plans based on that location but a month is tons of time to figure it all out!
my MOH changed mine TWO days before. . (that su*cked for other reasons but just bc it was a lame shower but everyone still made it there no problem!)

Thanks ladies! The reason my mom got upset is because the original manager said to pay cash and we would not get charged tax. It says it on the contract, but not in those exact words. It basically says the price per person + gratuity= $, for cash. The new manager will charge no tax no matter what. So my mom said they will now pay on credit card. I know its illegal not to charge tax, so I understand why he is making us pay it. But now its $4 more a per person. Which isn't a huge deal at all, but part of the reason we chose this place was because of the price. I asked him since we were promised one price and now have a higher price could he throw something extra in... and that's when he nastier. It wasn't like a huge embarassing scene or anything but I honestly feel we got off on the wrong foot. He also said that they don't do that menu anymore and that is what is worrying me.
I know that what makes a party great is the people- not the place. So part of me says just let it go and when it gets closer just try and start over with this guy. The other part feels like they will do a bad job on purpose- just a vibe I got from this guy.
