Don't Laugh....anyone ever heard of a professional pumpkin carver??

There are very talented ice sculptors out there, but has anyone ever heard of or know of a talented pumpkin carver?? In lieu of ice sculptures at our cocktail hour we thought we'd do some creatively carved pumpkins, which we can also use for our viennese hour...it will be Halloween afterall!

That is an awesome Idea!!!
however I have never heard of one before!
I did see on the wedding story once that they got their BP together a few days before and did it themselves with patterns and stencils!

I would ask your catering hall. After all during most cocktail hours there is either a carved watermellon or a carved butter boat. Someone inside the place had to do that. It doesn't hurt to ask, they might even provide the service for you for free.

Maybe try some of the local colleges, maybe an art student could do them, or the pumpkin farms?

Yes, I've heard of them, but wouldn't know where to find one. Since you have time, look around closer to halloween this year. The pumpkin farms (where you pick up your own) may have some references.

I've seen LOVELY professionally carved pumpkins, I think it's a GREAT idea!!!!!

Good Luck.

Kelly, what a great idea about involving our BP. If they're not works of art, it may just be fun! I will definitely have to take a ride out east to some pumpkin farms....thanks for the input ladies! BUT, in your travels if you happen to see something please let me know!!

Try contacting Disney ... they must employ professional pumpkins carvers as the last time I was there for Halloween they had one's with Walt's face carved (as well as Pooh, Mickey, etc!!!)>

I don't know if this will help but I found this:

Roger Williams Park Zoo, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Providence, R.I., 401-785-3510. Until Halloween, 6–11 p.m. If the Great Pumpkin does exist, this is his temple. More than 30 professional pumpkin carvers flex their skills creating over 5,000 jack-o-lanterns, elegantly displayed over a three-acre woodland trail. The centerpiece is the “Tree of Light”, but loads of new things are in store for this year’s spectators including a scene from Alice in Wonderland, a tribute to famous sports heroes and depictions of a host of other noted celebrities. This popular event has been known to sell out on weekends so head down during the week if possible. Arrive early and check out the animals, too.

The website below has same info with pics

Maybe you can call and talk to a professional pumpkin carver and ask if he knows anyone in the LI area - or will come down and carve some for you.

Oh and also contact Martha Stewart Living Magazine - they had jack-o-lanterns on their magazine cover either last year or a few years ago - maybe someone can direct you to someone that does this for a living.

And contact your florist too - maybe they'll know someone.

Good luck - it is a great idea =)

they have books on this. I have a few that have great techniques. check out the stores.

Also, I was in michaels & they had cute wicker/straw mini pumkins, the tops come off. you can place them round tables of fill with candy.

I think that most chefs can carve a pumpkin look at the animals and such they make out of fruit for the coktail hour.
