Don't want to register anymore

Don't want to register anymore

Well we go to BRU yesterday to do some more registering and I wanted to delete some of the 24 blankets the grandmothers picked out. Joe went zap happy and started scanning 2 of everything (he went nuts in the plates/cups/bottles section) and I just gave up and said 'whatever'. He had to pick out a diaper bag that he liked, because he didn't like the one I picked out!!! He also wants me to keep the 2 comforter sets that the grandmothers made me pick, because, of course, he doesn't like the one I picked. But whatever.

I go to hand in the gun and the woman gives me my printout and lo and behold on the bottom is the ITEMS ALREADY PURCHASED PAGE AND I FREAKED OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM NOT EVEN DONE -- HAVEN'T PICKED ANY OF THE BIG ITEMS YET, AND STUFF IS ALREADY GONE????? I DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT ANY OF IT!!!!!!!!

I was so ****ed when I left there and Joe goes 'what's the big deal?' -- the big deal buddy is that I really don't want to know that the exersaucer, the bouncer seat, the thermometer and fifty other things are off the list already WHEN I'M NOT DONE AND WHO KNOWS IF I WASN'T GOING TO CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT THOSE ITEMS????????

I asked my mother and she didn't tell anybody -- I know it was my MIL -- now please, I don't want to come across as an ingrate, because believe me, I am so appreciative of anything I get, but why does she insist on telling people when she knows we're not done yet, plus we're going to register in BBB also???????? And the icing on the cake is that all of this stuff was purchased on Saturday because on Friday, nothing was purchased when I was doing it online!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to vent to you ladies because I don't think Joe wants to hear me anymore, plus I can't yell about his mom, I love her, and I know she's very excited about her first grandchild, but COME ON. CAN'T YOU WAIT TO TELL YOUR FRIENDS??? And how about family first????

Oh God, I'm really thinking of going to a deserted island to give birth so that I don't have to deal with this anymore. I'm in no mood. I'm turning into a crabby biotch!!

Edited to say that the fun of registering has gone now and Joe tells me it's because I'm making it no fun anymore!!! Thanks Buddy!

Don't worry. If you change your mind about any of those items, you can always return them.
You don't have to tell anyone.

Please don't be upset with your MIL. She is obviously so excited about her grandchild that she couldn't wait to start telling people and shop.
I think you are teaching all of us who don't have children yet a big lesson.Absolutely under no circumstances go shopping with the moms when you register.

Re: Don't want to register anymore

I know what you mean Debbie. I had changed my mind about an exersaucer, changed the style and BRU never deleted the one I wanted deleted. and I got both for my shower I should have made BRU come and pick up the extra one from my house that I had to return.

As far as MIL and OVERWHELMING of gifts, I know what you mean. I adore my MIL and totally appreciate her, but she is constantly buying things that we DONT NEED. I have about 6 Avent bottles and about 10 nipples. She just bought me 2 more bottles (they are over $6 each bottle!!) So I have to say thanks I have plenty. and now its a 'return' to BRU trip for me. She bought me a tea kettle (the clear glass ones) and she said 'incase the paint chips on mine and goes into the water, and also so that I can SEE the water boiling' AGain I had to say 'Thanks, I REALLY appreciate it, but i dont need it' I have SO MUCH stuff 'in storage' in my house, and it just keeps adding of un-necessary items, Thanks but no thanks!
What else. She buys clothes all the time that JUST barely fit him NOW, so what use will we get out of it?? None of us are millionaires, so why the need to spend all this money senselessly ???
I adore her, but I feel bad that shes spending her hard earned money, and its spent on things that are not needed. I tell her to putt he money in a retirement envelope for herself (shes semi-retiring next year). and I feel bad that shes SPLURGING all the time. I showed her a water-boat floaty thing that we have for JA, and this weekend she bought us another one. Why do we need 2 ?
I can add up all this money spent on things that are not needed, and make a little savings account for JA from grandma
She totally means well, she adores my son (and me ) she even does this for my sister and my sisters kids ! (she is TOOO MUCH in terms of giving, I really AM blessed to have her) but she really spends above and beyond what is necessary...

Deb, we're in the same boat...

But I will count my blessings, because I have heard of MIL HORROR Stories, and everyone I know (my SIL's) and my good friends, want to adopt her as their MIL, shes invited to everything in my family, everyone adores her, and so do I, but I just feel bad about this spending of hers...

Debbie-who wins the LONGEST POST/LONGEST TANGENT ?? LOL.

PS-when are we having dinner ???

Sending you lots of hugs and smooches from Paul...maybe he can make all your stress go away??

Deb, I'm so sorry that the registering has become such a chore and no fun for you anymore. That really does stink b/c it should be fun.
Just keep venting and maybe it will help you let it roll right off your shoulders. Keep thinking about your little bambino/bambina and take deeeep breaths - no stress during pregnancy!!

One word about Joe's diaper bag....this is just my personal opinion, so take it for the hill of beans that it is worth...I let Jeff pick our diaper bag too b/c it was *important* to me that Mr. Dad was comfortable with the choice, so that he wouldn't mind carrying it around to anyplace we went. So, think of it this way - if Joe likes it, than he can CARRY IT! (One less thing to break YOUR back!)

Chin up, my friend....if you change your mind about the items that were already purchased, you can RETURN them. And, if that's too much of a hassle for you, than I will help you do it!

Re: Don't want to register anymore

Thanks guys, I knew you would make me feel better!!

Claud, can you laugh? I picked out some boring black bag that goes with everything -- I didn't want the 'typical' looking diaper bag -- Joe, on the other hand, wanted the faggiest looking (so I thought) bag -- he wanted Snoopy and I talked him out of that and he got Pooh!!!!! But if he wants to walk around with Snoopy, that's fine by me!!!

Anna, you kill me!!! I think me and you are pretty much tied in that category!!! How about dinner next week? I'm going up to MIL's on Friday, so I have to pack and get stuff ready (God help me ), not to mention my nerves!!!

Oh the joys of being a dutiful DIL to an only child!!! I'm glad you're with me in this one Anna!

Re: Don't want to register anymore

Can I suggest that you to BRU with a good friend and no one else. Then hit the delete key as often as you want too. Also, register for 2 diaper bags and have a Mommy and a Daddy bag. I would LOVE to see your DH take a snoopy bag out with him You MUST take a photo of that.
Honestly, just remove some of the stuff you really are not happy with or don't need. And bring a friend who is supportive and has similar tastes as you.

Now in regards to your MIL, I guess you are luckier to have someone who wants to enjoy your child, then one who doesn't. But I can also see her wanting to 'help' a lot. Have you discussed your first few days home with DH yet? I suggest you tell him how you want those days spent or else I can hear your doorbell at 8am every morning with well wishers (aka MIL) wanting to spend the day 'helping' you (aka never leaving).

Scott and I have already discussed that his family is free to visit ONLY if they stay in a hotel those first few weeks since a) I don't want overnight guests right away and b)I don't want to worry about entertaining people when I am just home with the baby. I also don't want his young neice and nephew running around the house and not sleeping all night because the baby is up every few hours. That is never a good combination IMO.
And since I will be trying to BF, I don't want a house full of people either. I am just not comfortable with BFing in front of his BIL or the kids or even his Mom to be very honest. I need some time to figure this all out.

Re: Don't want to register anymore

My MIL lives up in the Poconos, so I know she'll be camped out upstairs at his grandmother's beforehand and afterwards. I've already discussed the 'everybody can come visit but better go home at night' situation. I am not one of those who likes to be hoovered over when they aren't feeling well or at their best -- I want to be alone and don't need anybody to hold my hand and if people don't leave me alone, I can get crabby!!

My sister asked me last week if I was going to call people when I went to the hospital because she knows I don't like people hoovering over me and bothering me when I'm in pain (or not feeling well)and I said 'no, I'm going to call everyone 2 weeks later and say by the way, I had the baby 2 weeks ago' Of course I'm going to call everyone when it's time to go to the hospital, I don't care if you all pitch a tent in the waiting room -- JUST AS LONG AS NOBODY IS IN THE ROOM WITH ME, I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU ALL DO!!!!!

I know as the time gets closer that I'll be emphasizing this more so that people get the hint. I know she's excited about her first grandchild, as my mother is about her second -- I'm just waiting for people to realize that it's MY first baby and hey, I might be just as excited, actually I'm MORE excited, but whatever.

I'm lucky because my MIL really is a doll to me and always puts me first (sometimes before her own son) and I totally appreciate that and am thankful I don't have a witch as a MIL. I guess the grass is always greener, huh?

What am I going to do when I'm home before the baby is born and I don't have a computer???? How am I going to vent about this situation, because you know it'll be worse that last week or two!!!

Re: Don't want to register anymore

#1 ~ You already know that I TOTALLY sympathize with you on this registering nightmare that has become your life, but here are a few extra just for you!

#2 ~ I LOVE Claudine's idea that if Joe chooses the bag, Joe carries the bag! And I also want to see Joe with his Snoopy or Pooh diaper bag!! Don't they make a Sponge Bob one???

#3 ~ GET YOUR ARSE DOWN IN THE BASEMENT AND BRING UP THAT D*A*M*N LAPTOP!!! Or better yet, ask for a brand spanking new one for your 'Thanks for having our baby' present from Joe!!
WE NEED YOU ON HERE AFTER THE BEAR CUB IS BORN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, Debbie, but I am LMAOOOOOOOO!!! I can't begin to imagine!!!

My MIL could care less about this stuff ~ of course, she's in Tampa (RAHHHH!!)

I loved editing my registry on-line w/ NO one around!!

Hang in there!!

I am ROFLMAO at the 'I'm going to tell people 2 weeks after ' I totally agree with what Michele said I went with my Sister and BF (although my StepM tagged along too) It was a great idea because my BF is a mother so she 'suggested' what I would need, I found her to be a great help!! I also made the NO ONE BUT NO ONE except me hold the gun rule

Debbie, at least you can return what you don't want, don't get worked up over it and upset yourself and the baby. It will all work out

Re: Don't want to register anymore

Camille, I was there from around 1 to 2:30 ish!!! I didn't see you!!! Oh I wish I did!!! Did you see the crazed father-to-be with the gun going around zapping 2 of everything??? That would be my husband!!!

I think I could open another store with all the returns I'll be getting!!!!

I'm going to BBB tonight and since I haven't been there to register yet, I'll have fun and pretend it's the first time!!!

I'm telling ya, the deserted island is looking more and more inviting!!!

Jen, don't worry I'll get that laptop and dust it off and get it working -- I'll have MAJOR withdrawal w/o my LIW and email and if they think I'm a biotch now, wait until I don't have my internet connection!!!!
