Dontcha just wish...

Dontcha just wish...

... that you could do some of your wedding planning without everyone's opinions and input?

Mom and I went to look for invitations at Party City - just to look through books. We easily agreed on an invitation, wrote down all of the model numbers and plan on ordering them next week through a family connection that offers a HUGE discount. I also have a calligrapher in mind that I want to use. So here I am all excited just waiting for my quote from the invite person so I can prepare my deposit. FH tells me that his mother pulls out an invitation that she got for a wedding that was nice and SHE knows someone who does invites and would match any price and they do calligraphy. Im thinking 'Great, now if I don't use HER person then I am going to be the evil inflexible BRIDEZILLA.' If FMIL was paying or offered to pay for the invites, it may be a little different story. I just want to be left alone to do my thing. I have my reasons for doing things that I do not care to explain. Sorry for the rant but I am tired of explaining every damn thing I do to people. GRRRR

Maybe you could simply tell your FMIL that you and your mom already agreed on a certain invite because it goes with the color and style of your wedding, and her invite might not. Let her know you fell in love with the invites and can't imagine using anything different, but you appreciate her input.

As for using her vendors, let her know you would prefer to go through someone you know in case if you have to make changes, or if there are any mistakes, you feel more comfortable then if it were someone she recommended. I know I would have a hard time complaining if I had a problem with someone that was recommended to me!

But I agree with you about not needing everyone's opinions. I am already being driven crazy by everyone's opinions on my makeup, my hair, my BM colors, my BM dresses, our choice not to have a videographer, the day of my wedding, etc.

I just wish I could make a decision without people's comments. FMIL seems surprised when I already have ideas and things going on. I am 35 years old (in 2 weeks). I am the last of my friends to get married so I have seen just about everything I need and want to see. My family has made many functions and to me, wedding planning is cut and dry. Very cookie cutter and simple. At my age, its more about what you DON'T want than what you do want.

I'm sorry One thing that helps me is living in a different state from my parents and my FILs. :We've made all the decisions so far, because who in their right mind wants to come to Maryland in the middle of the summer to help plan a wedding?

I'm 31 and I feel the same way right now. We just went to meet with some DJ's and had a better idea of what we didn't want than what we did want.

We seemed to be like that with everything, actually!! I think the only thing we knew what we wanted was with the photography!!!

OH yeah, and doesn't it seem like everyone always has an opinion on your dress, hair and makeup?? I seem to get this the most.

I got engaged then...

BOOM! Less than two weeks later the Temple was booked.

BOOM! Two weeks after that, the band was booked.

BOOM! A week after that I had my dress ordered.

BOOM! Two weeks after that, we found bridesmaid dresses.

BOOM! A month later I had video/photography booked.

BOOM! Two weeks after that, we chose invitations (to be ordered next week).

A woman mentally plans this day her entire life. Just before FH and I were engaged, I felt that someone was saying 'Ready, set....' and I was just waiting til I got the ring before I heard the 'GO!!!'. One I got my 'GO' it all fell into place. People are interfering with my 'GO!!!

Sometimes it's FH that interferes with my 'GO!!'

He reminded me last weekend that we really need to look into DJ's and Limos. When I scheduled the appts and told him yesterday we have a few appts to go to, he whined and rolled his eyes!!! I said hey, who was the one saying we need to do this right away, you or me??

UGH Everyone has opinions, it doesn't make them right. Everyone thought I was nuts because when we got engaged I originally said I was going to get a red wedding dress just to be different!!! I think I would have been disowned!!!

I can totally relate.....I'm getting 'opinions' all around. I've been biting my tongue, but one day, I know I'm gonna let 'em have it!!

Im glad I could bring a smile to someone's face - wish it were mine though. Lately I walk around with the feeling that banging my head against the wall would be a much better alternative than planning a wedding.

I hear ya my mil has something to say about everything I have planned so far for my wedding I can't stand it but what I do when she has an idea or a suggestion I tell her I will look into it and I do but I always like my idea better.

I would look at her invitations and look into the prices and then jsut tell her that your person is going to do it for cheaper then her person is goign to do it for. At least you gave her person a look at and she won't think of you as a non flexable bridezilla.

I would if I had time. Also, she (FMIL) is on LI and I am in Queens as is my vendor choice. I can run back and forth easily. This vendor will also be doing my programs and possibly favors (should I choose to have favors). Basically, I am happy with my choice and want to be left to finish what I started.

Invites are one of the few things that I didn't need FH for to accompany me for. He is a rare breed of guy who is very involved in wedding plans. Some might think thats great but I run into interference with every chioce I make.
