Dopey Q re: Real estate commish & apt

I never got an apt. through a realtor, but we've started looking & found an apt we really love (online) but it is listed through a realtor. How much do they charge for commish? (1 month rent?)

How does that work?

Depends on the realtor.......but typically it's 1 month's rent.

I never went through a realtor but shouldn't the owner of the apt pay the commission and not the person who is going to rent it?

Littlecat, I agree w/ you...seems steep. I'll keep looking.

That is not the way it is done. The renter pays. However, sometimes in the city, if your rent from a big apartment company, they will pay it.

The renter pays...usually the fee is one month, but we negotiated down to 1/2 month when we moved into the crummy apartment we're in now

I just rented an apt through a realtor and I had to pay 1 mo. rent as a fee.

Some places charge 15% of one years rent.
