Re: Dora the Explorer

Here's a synopsis I found for you:

Dora the Explorer is a half-hour animated children's television series staring a 7-year-old Latina girl and her friends. The show is designed to actively engage preschoolers in a play-along, computer-style adventure.

Dora the Explorer teaches children how to observe situations and solve problems as they explore Dora's world with her. Along the way, kids learn basic Spanish words and phrases, as well as math skills, music, and physical coordination. The show is highly interactive, and Dora's young viewers are encouraged throughout the show to respond to Dora and to actively participate in the adventure through physical movement.

Luke's a bit young for it (although anything with animation will catch his attention) but I think she always travels with Boots the monkey. What they mean by computer style is Dora will talk to the viewers and say 'Do you see the bridge' and then you'll see a cursor go and click on a bridge. So the viewers help her get to where she need to go, even though the kids arent really doing anything presumably they're watching it and following along.

Does this help?

Re: Dora the Explorer

ITs an ADDICTIVE SHOW for these kids!

The kids will watch it mesmerized. Its a very interactive show. She asks the kids to repeat words in spanish, touch the screen to choose the right answer for something and she asks questions and gives them time to answer.
I thought it was more of a girly show, but the boys sit just as still for that half hour

JA doesnt really sit and watchthe whole show. I actually didnt think he even payed attention as the other kids watched it, since its more of a toddler answer/response type show, but at Macys last week, we saw a Dora backpack and he goes 'DOE AHHH !!!' I almost fell over They are more observant than we think.

JULIANNE LOVES DORA...and now she will 'ask' to watch dora...by saying 'd-d-d-'....

the dora theme goes...d-d-d- DORA, Dora the explorer...so its funny to see that my almost 13 month old has caught onto this!

Re: Dora the Explorer

my 3yr old loves Dora - she runs around the house saying 'Swiper - no swiping' LOL
There is a little fox named Swiper that 'steals' things from Dora & her friend Boots and then Dora goes on adventures to find them.

It is a really cute show, they repeat words to help the kids learn them and they repeat the tasks they are about to do and as someone else said, they use a computer mouse curser to click on the tasks. She also carries a backpack that seems to be an endless bag of stuff for Dora to use. They also use Spanish words and try to incorporate them into the show.

My younger nieces and nephews LOVE Dora.

Warning-not a good show to put on before bedtime...it's a little too interactive.
