not know how to cook?! I'm a little embarrassed that I can't cook! And it makes me nervous for when its time to cook for my FH. My mother never allowed me in the kitchen when she was cooking, we had a small kitchen and she said I made her nervous when too many people where there. So I was never watching and learning. My capabilities at the moment are basic. I can make breakfast foods with ease, eggs, pancakes, french toast, omelets. And I think I got a handle on sausage and peppers. But anything else and I am lost! I live alone at the moment and I eat omelets for dinner every night! Any suggestions on some beginner cook books, or easy recipes? Sorry this is so long.

How to Cook Everything is a good basic book. I don't recall the author's name (I am moving and packed it already) but I see it in most bookstores. It has a yellow cover and it is very thick.
Also, 1001 Low-Fat Recipes by Terry Blonder Golson is good- even if you are not interested in low-fat cooking the recipes are simple and very flavorful.
It just takes practice! If you can do those things you mentioned I am sure you can do many, many other things.

you can find great recipes at www.allrecipes.com and a great beginner book to have is Where Is My Mom Now That I Need Her. It has simple recipes as well as cleaning tips, etc.

i really don't know how to cook either and quite frankly i'm not all that interested in learning. i have tried a few dishes and have found that i just can't cook any type of meat, chicken, steak, etc. i always overcook it! anyway, my fiance is an awesome cook better yet, he enjoys it, too!! i'm moving into his place this weekend so we'll see how this all works out.
