Doubletree Hotel 'DC question'

Doubletree Hotel 'DC question'

I have a wedding I am going to the end of March down there and I am friends with the groom who lives up here. They are having Black Tie optional. I dont know what kind of weddings they do there, and I dont want to be over dressed and I dont want to go out and really buy another dress. I have a dress I wore to another wedding which is pretty fancy and I think I could get away with it. But, want to make sure first. Also, can I give a gift or is it just money. I think it depends on the place determines the gift so i want to know what to give and how to dress.

Lili, an evening black-tie optional event in DC would be just as fancy as one in NY, so you can compare it to that. Also, I'm sure either a gift or money would both be equally appreciated by the bride & groom. (There's no rule that says $$ is preferred, and actually I've found that 'down South' people are just as inclined to give a gift as they are $$.) I hope this helps

I agree with flyin' bride all the way. Black tie here is the same as black tie on LI. Although I think there are more informal weddings in the DC area, the formal ones are just as nice. And, although on LI I would only give money, people here are open to gifts. For a recent wedding, I went to the Mikasa outlet and bought a nice crystal set - it looked much more expensive than what I actually paid for it. Good luck! If you need any other DC advice, feel free to FM me.
